I have a limited edition 690-01 with the carbon fiber & ivory micarta slabs. I'm considering a "standard" 690 with the carbon fiber & rosewood scales, or a limited edition 690BLK with the carbon fiber & black micarta scales. Any opinions?

These would be plain edge, satin 154CM (don't like the BT2 or BC1 finish). (I don't like the full-carbon one, the blue wood one is gone, and the black G10 model comes only with a BT2 blade, so please don't suggest those alternatives!)

I really like the 690BLK, and if they would have had one in stock I would have bought it instead of the 690. I soon traded that knife off because it seemed a little too nice for me ot ruin by doing chores or let my change scratch her up.

been carrying the 690 for about a year, daily use, excellent build quality for the money, lightweight and very durable. the blue anodizing will wear off but the rest is excellent, except for one thing... I found the blade to be too thick for good slicing. great for stabbing, but slicing no way... my spyderco calypso jr beats it hands down for cutting/slicing ability. otherwise, this is an excellent knife for edc...

I guess I'd like to know why your considering the stanard 690 before I answer...

I'm not too fond of the rosewood/ carbon fiber because it looks very manufactured... rather then like real wood. I'd suggest a different benchmade for heavy use.

The 690 is a pretty knife that can work not a work knife that is pretty.

YMMV

I use mine mainly as a dress/office knife. That said, it's done some heavy cuttin' without a problem. Plus, it is very comfortable to wield. Alan Elishewitz did a real nice job on the design and I wish he was still designing for BM.

Hey, my kind of person! I have alot of the 690's still available.
I have both of the other 690's that your looking for.
Maybe we can work a trade or sale outright?

Drop me a line, maybe we can work something out.

I do like the 690 series.

I have a 690SBC1 (rosewood + carbon fiber, Combo edge of 154CM with Boron Carbide coating) that I just love.

I bought, then, a Limited edition: Blackwood + carbon fiber handle, Plain edge D2 steel with BT coating.

I like the black coating, since I think it fits the knife, but I much rather prefer there was no coating on my D2 blade...
