What do you guys think about these two knives and how do they compare? I am looking to purchase one of them at some time in the near future and would appreciate any info or suggestions. I would use it for light duty EDC primarily, and if working or outdoors then I will have a bigger knife. I just want something small and unobtrusive to have during class and such.

yes I'm currently looking into getting these two. i love the blade length, just under 3 inches, on both of these. tough to decide- the bm 705 has the partially serrated edge option (the 773 just has plain edge) whereas the handle design looks much nicer on the 773. if you are price sensitive, the 705 is cheaper. if you are leaning towards the 773, get it fast- supply seems to be more limited as it is not available on a lot of the online stores. :D

how big are your hands? i have a 773, and it's an awesome small knife. only possible concern is that it's about the smallest knife that i could comfortably open with one hand. the 705 is a bit thicker, so you have more of a handle to grab onto when you're using it

I believe you can get them in a plain-blade model, unless BM quit making them - I have one.

They still make them. Can pick one up at 1SKS, Newgraham, Knifeworks, etc. I would take the 705 unless you want a gent's knife. Then go with the 770 BC1. Carbon Fiber & boron carbide finish. It's a smaller knife, but solid. Can't miss with either.

I have 2 plain edge 705's. I find them very easy to open and close with one hand. I have 2 because I liked the first one so much I wanted a spare. If I had it to do over again I wouldn't get 2 of the very same knife but it is a great knife. The handle is a little thick which may not appeal to some people but it's a tough little knife that's easy to use.

Just placed my order today for a 705-401. :) It looks to be sweet variation and great addition to my 705BT and 705 Forum Knife. I can't believe they're planning to discontinue the 705. So sad. :(

The 705-401 are being sold exclusively by EDCKnives (www.edcknives.com) and American Heritage Sports (www.americanheritagesports.com)

The 705 has a great following, but I couldn't love the one I owned for a short time. To me the handle was too bulky for such a small blade, but lots of folks love them. I bought my boss a 773 a couple years ago and he loves it. It is a small gentleman's knife and well suited to situations where you want a nice blade but want to be discrete or are dressed in nice clothes. He's done stuff with that 773 I would never have tried, but of course I have 40 knives to choose from. I love Osborne's designs. A 941 Ti/S30V 941 and a Carbon Fiber/D2 941 are two of my most favorite EDC knives, I carry them all the time. You could get a plain aluminum handled 941 or 943 for not much more than a 773 and have a much more useful knife that still hides well in the pocket of dress pants. But if you need something under 3" then a 773 is a great choice. I checked out the 771 in CF and while I'm usually a CF freak, I prefer the feel of aluminum handles on the 77x series knives. They are pretty small, almost as small as a Willaim Henry T-10 Lancet, which is also a great choice in a small CF handled knife.
