Hello all,

I've been trying to decide between the BM 707 Sequel and the 941 for EDC. I will be buying online so I won't be able to handle either of them before purchasing.

I would really appreciate any input from any of you that own one or both of these knives that may help me decide between the two. I already realize one of the main differences is the blade length. But what else attracts you to one over the other?

If you could only purchase one of them, which would you choose and why? :)

Thanks,

Starchaser

P.S. I currently rotate the following EDC's depending on my mood and what my plans are for that day or night... Delica, Calypso Jr, Endura, 710HS and Small Regular Sebenza.

I just found myself with same problem and went with the 941.After reading all the info on this forum I ordered one today. Also liked how it looks.Steve

Hi Steve,

So what were the deciding factors that made you ultimately choose the 941 over the 707? BTW... I guess you liked the color of the 941 better then the 943 huh? If I go with the 941, thats the other choice I need to make 941 green or 943 black. :)

Thanks,

I own a 707 and is a really "thin" handled knife so it carries easily. With that said, I'd probably would trade up, if given the chance for a 94x. Like a mini Ritter Grip or even your small Sebenza, the thumb ramp on the blade compensates somewhat for lack of handle (length wise).

Don't get me wrong, I like the 707 and I do carry it when I need something thinner to carry around. But if I had to choose only one, I'd go with the 94x series. Preferably black scales. Or the Ti one with S30V. :D

Starchaser,I already have two Benchmades with 3 in blades and did not want another.I know the 941 is not much longer.I have read nothing but good things about the 941 and I have also handled the 940 but did not care for the tanto blade.

i just received my 707, two days ago. i received my 943 last month. very impressed with the 707. slim, light weight, larger blade than my 705's. compact, non-threatening yet very useful. fit and finish is top notch benchmade.( excellent purchase ). the 943 seems to be about 1/2 inch longer at both ends than the 707, however i notice the size at the handle side which i find more comforting, it rides low in the pocket, slim, light weight, very durable. some have referred to it as a gentlemans knife, not a tank like the 710. this knife WON'T back down. i have preference to the black handle of the 943. you won't have any regret's with either, whatever your choice. good luck.

Both are a great choice for a small to medium cutter for EDC, but given a choice, I'll go with the 941. IMHO, the 941 has the longer handle that feels more comfortable in my hand (fat mits). I find it great for those times when, for example, a Mini-Grip is too small and a 710 is too big for a job. I've carried mine, rotated with a 942 and 940, for a while and it has held up to everything from hacking at wood to food prep with sharpness maintained with a few minutes on a Sharpmaker. Plus, the spear point blade with the green handle makes for a beautiful knife. As others have mentioned, you could not lose with either knife. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys for your thoughts on the 707 vs 941. Please keep them coming. :) It seems from the last couple of post that the handle of the 707 maybe a little small and you find the handle of the 941 more comfortable.

Something else came to mind after reading some of your post. I had 940 a few years back but didn't like the reverse tanto... however it had the smoothest action of any BM I have ever handled. I'm assuming the 941 would have the same smooth action.

Can any of you please tell me how the 707 compares to the buttery smooth action of the 940?

Thanks,

Starchaser

To me, the 707 and the 940, 941, 942 were the same or so close in action as to be neglible. If I had to make some definite choice, I'd say the 707 was a bit smoother. The gap in smoothness between the knives was alleviated with a drop of Sentry Solutions, Militec, etc. Sorry to prattle on about the 940's, but those are some of my favorite BM's.
Aside, if you are looking for something a little different, or another knife to buy down the road, check out the BM Gaucho. It is about the same size as a 94x's and the modified tanto is, IMHO, a great blade shape for general EDC.

Thanks for the input guys, I really appreciate it. I think I'll go for the 941 or 943... all I have to do now is decide on green or black. :D

Hello all,

Well thanks to all of your help, I'm definitely going with the 94X in green and the 707 is out for now, SGT.

However now someone has put a twist in it for me by bringing the NRA 12800 Gaucho to my attention... :D It looks pretty interesting although I'm not sure I like the NRA logo on the blade. It looks kinda like the 94X series. What do you all think about the Gaucho? If any of you own one, how do you like it compared to the 94X series?

Also how do the rest of you feel about the 940 reverse tanto compared to the 941 clip point? Which do you like better and why?

Thanks,

Starchaser
