i'm torn between the three and can't decide. i haven't been able to see the 710, but have tried the switchback and 941. both have great feel on the handles.

of the three, which one has the best feel? which one has the best material for a handle? anything else i should know?

i'm kind of leaning towards teh switchback, but still not sure.

what's the differnece between all the 940s? 940-943?

is the 710 too big of a knife?

Its all about preference. I was going to get a 710 and instead got a 940. I handled both side by side, thought about it, and realized the 710 would be as good, ride much better, and was also a much slicker package.

If you are familiar with Spyderco G10, the stuff BM uses is not as grippy, so dont expect that out of the 710. That said, the 710 is a great knife. One reason I didnt go for the 710 is because I would have gotten the high speed M2 steel. Being a bench sharpener, and M2 being a tough steel, my crock sticks would have been no match, meaning even more money into a sharpener. The 710s recurve makes bench sharpening dificult.
Just something to keep in mind.

basically, when I handled it, it felt much nicer. I also looked at things from a practical standpoint and realized the size of the 710 wouldnt signifigantly help me in most of my daily tasks.

I also didnt want a recurve because it would be hard to sharpen. Regardless of steel. Thats one disadvantage of stone sharpening, but I prefer it. I find using the sharpmaker and other jigs miserable, and really enjoy using a stone, so thats a sacrafice I make, loosing some very interesting and effective geometries. I am sure that I will eventually get a sharpmaker and some recruve and reverse s blades.

I also really liked the looks of the 940. It is definately the smoothest axis I have ever used. I think part of that is blade geometry and balance. While I normally dont let looks effect my knife purchase, it also seemed to be the most practical option.

I found the 940 to be more comfortable than the switchback but thats again personal preference.

I have the purple 921S switchback. It holds an edge, is easy to carry, and so far has shown no problems at all. I like the axis lock.

Even my wife like to use it and she isn't much of a knife nut. I personally think she just is attracted to the color but I be sleeping with our retreiver you know where if I suggested such a thing so we will just let it lie.

i also wanted the 940 over the 710 too, but the longer length of the 710 intrigued me. anyway, which 940 do you have? just th e940? can you tell me what the differneces are between all four?

I've never handled the 710. I do know that it is highly regarded here on bladeforums. I do have a 940 and my wife owns a 921. Of the two, I much prefer the 940. It is narrower when folded, making it more comfortable in the pocket. The handle is also more comfortable than the 921 in the hand. I would imagine that the 710 is more comfortable in the hand than either the 940 or 921. Pulling back on the axis lock with the thumb and flicking the blade open (and closed) becomes second nature and seems to just happen with hardly a thought. The 921 has less mass in the blade than the 940, and so does not flick open and closed as easily.

I own a 710 and a 940. They are both great designs, but I much prefer the grip (and blade shape) of the 710. The 940 works well, but it is both thin and straight, which do not provide as secure a grip as the thicker and more curved shape of the 710.
