If you were choosing between a NIB 710 w/BG-42 blade that cost $125 and a NIB 710 w/D2 blade that cost $100, which one would you choose and why?

What did you smoke when you saw that BG-42:D 710? It's non-existent.
Unless the blade is custom made. But then it wouldn't be NIB.

Maybe it was ATS-34. :o

Or maybe it was a dream brought on by Durban Poison, in which I came across this older model BM 710 while traveling several months ago. ;)

Probably ;) FWIW, the 710 was originally made in ATS-34.

Of those 2 models, I'd choose a 710 in D2 over one in ATS-34 for a user knife.

(D2 is current production, so it's not as "collectible" if you care about that...)

D2 over ATS-34, although I own both. D2 cuts better and holds the edge longer even if it's harder to sharpen.

I might go $25 extra for BG-42 for the extra stain resistance, and because...it's BG-42. Not something we see a lot of.
Before S30V came along, I always had to choose between BG-42 and D2 in customs.
I can't say that there was really any great difference between any of them from a practical standpoint.

If you can get the a BG-42 710 for $25 more than the current production go for it for the rarity ;)
