BM 710...convince me

I've never held one, but have seen several photos and youtube clips. I have always passed it over, for no particular reason other than it didn't scream at me - maybe the clip or unappealing G-10 or the closed construction, I don't know. But reading a recent post about having only one BM model, many listed the 710. I was seriously considering getting an 805 TSEK, but having doubts now about which would be the better choice.

Is the 710 that good?

it is one of the best EDC folders out there, simple, elegant, strong, good looking, very good performer, not very big but not too small either....
gives a certain type of confidence once you hold it

Thanks for replies and especially the pics - very useful for me. I do like what I see.

Lot'sa blade in a small package!! Flagship knife for BM and a must have for any knife guy. Love mine!

I have the Blackwater edition and it's the only BM that has not left my collection. It's a great EDC and a sexy looking blade.

I had a 710, I traded it and have regretted it ever since. Same with my 940 but I have recently repaired that mistake.

the 710 is an american classcs, one of those knives that would never dissapoint users in any situation. from utility to edc to camping to emergency defense. a real walk out the door & never look back folder. not quite as strong as a spydie millie but outside of the spydie bradley , certainly in the top 10 for all time ruggedness & with the new m390 alloy in the top one percent of cutting performance.--dennis

Yes, it really is that good. I bought one right after they were introduced in 1999 and still have, use and love that knife. I've bought several more. The M390 dealer special that is still for sale (only with black DLC coating and plain edge blade) is a superb example. The steel is coming out at the top of different users' tests, and the build quality on those knives is as good as Benchmade gets, although the price is a lot higher than the standard D2 production model. (It's worth the additional cost, IMO.)

Yeah M390 is what got me leaning on the 805. Though the 710 is still available in black, I have sort of drifted from buying black blades as of recent. I actually do prefer the design of the 710 to the 805. And there is nothing wrong with D2.

You guys are doing a fine job of convincing me.

If the closed construction bothers you, it's pretty easy to remove the plastic back spacer and install standoffs. I used barrel spacers I got from one of the on line knife maker's supply stores. Added some extra class to an already classy knife.

Nothing wrong with D2, true, but there's a lot that's more right about M390. ;) I have both the black and satin 710 M390s. I agree on black, but this is nicely done and should be very durable.

Yes - I have done this to several of my 710s. I posted a video on YT a year or two ago on this.

I may be wrong but just judging from the size of the clip in relation to the rest of the handle, it doesn't look like a 710 (plus the blade shape is different). I'm thinking that's either a 707 Sequel, or a Mini McHenry Williams. Can you clarify?

It's a (model number) 16707, I think.

It was a nice knife, but the quality of the G-10 was sorely lacking. You can even see in the pics shows with the Spyderco that the G-10 has a shiny look to it. In hand it felt plasticky and smooth to me. The handle material was no where near as good as Spyderco's or Emerson's. That being said the ergos were decent and it deployed very smoothly. Would I buy one again no, do I regret selling the one I had no.

I would certainly get 805 TSEK!
And 710 too.
At least that is what I did.
After I have got Dejavoo - which I have listed in the topic about having one knife only...

Yeah, kind of a mix between the 707 and 710. The handle shape of the 707 but a slight recurve on the blade.

It's nice either way. I like the blade shape. Kinda reminds me of the BM Mini-Skirmish, but without the holes.
