Hey members.... I came across a BM 710 first run....it is 1 of 1000....yes! The first ever AXIS lock #1 of 1000.... So I snatch it for a price of a PM2.....no box...just knife and its in mint condition.

Now...let me have it...did I do a stupid, out of control buy? Just trying to justify my knife addiction. But C'mon man....when do you come across #1 first ever AXIS preproduction run

I have bad news for you. But it's not bad really. Your knife is only One of One Thousand (1/1000) and that means it's not the first one, it could be 15 or 999. Now it also means you've got an early version that has value. Benchmade got a lot of heat for that numbering scheme by upsetting guys just like you and me who thought they got something really rare, and so changed the numbering to actually read like: (555/1000). I love the 710's, own five of them...you didn't make a mistake. Anyone liking Benchmades has to have one of these in their collection; they were the first production models with the Axis mechanism. And since it didn't come with the box go ahead and put it to work! :)

imo the early 710's had a bit better grind. The newer one's are a bit watered down, less re-curve & smaller swedge.
Tried to get it in the photo, but is more pronounced in person.
I tried... The early one in 154 , and a bit on the M2 is what I am talking about.
BTW, nice snag! ATS 34? or 154?

Thanks MCM...and here's a pic of most of mine...the recurve is different depending on the year they were made:

I didn't explain it well enough?? I KNOW it says 1 of 1000 on the blade. What I'm saying is; they ALL were marked 1 of 1000. I just hope you didn't spend too much cash thinking it was otherwise.

yes, so what Joe is saying is there is 999 others out there that say the same thing(1 of 1000). I had one of those 1 of 1000 a couple years ago and sold it.

I see....no problem. I didn't spend a arm & a leg....like said the cost of a PM2 when they were available everywhere.

Not a bad knife... I also have one is D2

Paying that price for even a standard 710 is a good deal. And I'd still say it's something special being the first run. And who knows, just because there were many "1 of 1000" marked ones, who's to say yours isn't the first?
