BM 710 - G10 Handles

Hey guys, I just received a 710D2 in a trade. The knife is fantastic, but one thing sort of bothers me. In the past, I've used G10 scaled knives from Kershaw and Spyderco, so I am used to a rough, grippy G10. The G10 on the 710 is rather odd. Its smooth, not very grippy, and shiny in texture. Is this how BM does all of their G10? Is it the way they finish the G10, or is it a different material altogether? Would I be able to rough it up by sanding it? Thanks for reading.

Spyderco has superior G-10 I think. They put more fiberglass in it I believe and use a better texture so the benchmade g-10 feels much more like cheap plastic. I don't suggest roughing it up with sandpaper unless you have a really good mask because g-10 is very toxic.

it seems to me that benchmade polishes their slabs of g10 way too much, is should be left more porous as to enhance gripability
while it certainly doesn't compete with spyderco's g10 (which is best imo), benchmade's g10 is pretty tough stuff: my 710D2 took some nasty falls without damage, and it performed pretty well in wet environments (no hand slipping)

Cool, thanks for the info. I just got a Mini-Rukus today, and the G-10 feels much grippier, a lot less polished than the G-10 on the 710.

Sometimes BM's G10 can be a hit or miss on texture. I have never had a problem with grip on any of my G10 BMs but, some are smoother then others.

I dont mind the smooth handles. Personally I dont like the super grippy stuff. I find it hrts the hands when you put em in your pockets. I tend to walk around with hands in m pockets so i find it rather annoying hahah

You can rub it with a green scrub pad (like from the kitchen) and it might restore some grip to it. Doesn't seem like a good idea, but it works a little.

Some of BM's G-10, like on the 806, is grippier.
Some of BM's G-10, like on the 710, is slipperier.
I don't know why. I prefer their grippier stuff myself, but we don't get a choice.
The G-10 on some knives, like the Striders, is so grippy it could tear up your pockets, if not your hands, pretty quick.
I think it has to do with how close together the fibers are in the fiberglass sheets they make it out of.
