BM 710... G10 or not?

The handles of my 710 feel way more like zytel or some other glass epoxy rather than the rough solid feel of G10, but Benchmade claims they're made of G10...whats the deal?

It is G-10, but Benchmade doesn't finish it the same way that, for example, Spyderco does.

Spyderco, Al Mar, Emerson, Strider, and many others all use a rough finish. Benchmade uses a smoother (but still textured) finish on their 710 (and some others like the AFCK).

G-10 can also be highly polished like on the Benchmade Activator.

I agree that the G-10 on the 710 feels plasticy. I am not very fond of it and much prefer rougher G-10.

Look at the 2 grooves cut and see if u can see the fiberglass. The other thing is that if u use a small piece of steel rod to tap the g10, it will feel like steel, not plastic.

Yeah, I also don't like the plastic like G10 Benchmade uses. To me it might as well just be plastic. I pretty much refuse to buy anything else G10 from Benchmade. I'd rather have a Griptilian than a G10 BM due to how bad their G10 feels.

Spyderco G10 is where it's at. ;)

Spyderco uses custom G10 that has something like 30% more glass if I recall correctly. It feels like a composite material. I agree that Benchmade's G10 does feel like plastic.

I don't mind this "plastic" feeling that people describe. My biggest problem with my 710 is how much more slippery it is than say, my Spyderco Paramilitary. It is obviously tough G-10 on the 710, but it's polished a bit much or just textured poorly. I'd rather see really rough G-10 on "tacticals" or tough work-oriented knives. If it's too much, I can always lightly sand it a bit.
