BM 710 M390 Compared to BM 710 D2 (Differences Aside from Steel)?

Hello Everyone and Happy Holidays,

I am probably in the same situation as several other members on this forum; I am trying to decide between the BM 710 in M390 and the BM 710 in D2. Given the supposed/documented advantages of M390 over D2, my decision would seem to be an easy one. However, several of the posts I have read in the forums here seem to suggest that there are greater differences between these two versions than just the steels. Some have suggested that the M390 is lighter, possessing a thinner blade with less material than the D2 version. Is this true? I was under the impression that everything between the models was the same except the steel. I've handled a D2 before and it felt surprisingly comfortable to my hand. I don't want to order the M390 expecting that same feel and balance and ease of deployment, only to be disappointed by unforeseen changes in the design that are not clearly advertised, either on the Benchmade or Knifeworks websites.

So, anyone who owns or has handled these two versions, could you please enumerate the differences, aside from the steel, so that I can get a better idea of what might suit me best?

Thank you for your time and help.

All the best,

Michael

I have an M390 710. I have handled a D2 710 extensively. I noticed no such differences.
If there are differences, you'd have to look at them side-by-side to notice them. That, I have not done.

On my 710-1 the spine is crowned and as far as I know the D2 ones aren't.

+ 1

My 710 in M390 does feel lighter then my 710 in D2 for some reason, can't really explain that. Other than that, I can't really really think of anything. I do like the M390 better than D2, although you can't really go wrong either way IMO.
