BM 710 M390 from KW vs BM 710 D2

M390 is a little easier to sharpen and supposedly a better steel.
Nothing wrong with D2 from what I've seen. It's a bear to sharpen and seems to hold an edge well.
I'd actually like another knife or two in D2... good stuff.

Well, you're going to have an exclusive version so if you're buying it as a collector is probably worth the premium to you.

I got the 710 M390 because I gave my 710 D2 to my father in-law. The new knife seems to have a slightly thinner blade than the D2. This is just my obsevation.., I don't know maybe I'm comparing the thickness to the 755 MPR. Also, the steel liners are milled out. Not sure if other 710s have the same. The 710 M390 has a rounded spine, making it more stream line going in and out of the pocket. The knife to begin with is already very slim and tapered. I have been carrying the knife for a couple of days and hardly noticeable you are actually carrying a 4" blade.

word, knifes are the best.

LOL

I hate knifes and a knive... But I like knives and a knife

I've been wanting to pick up one of the D2s for a while now... Or even 154CM or ATS-34 if I can find them. I'm not too big on the steel.

Yeah, so, at the risk of turning this into a steel debate...

I've been wrestling with this exact decision because BM rates M390's hardness higher than D2's, and I want a knife that can take some rough stuff without deforming too much--like slipping and hitting metal and glass. Oh, and don't say, "Don't cut metal and glass," that's kind of like telling the guy that wants a higher saftey-rated car, "Don't get into car accidents."

I just got the M390 version, don't have anything in D2 to compare it too though, I think the M390 version is more for collectors or if you're interested in trying out this relatively new steel, its suppose to be more rust resistant and have better edge holding capabilities probably not $65 more worth, but I'm trying it just because of the new steel. Also part of that price is for the exclusivity of the knife with only 250 being made. If I were buying either one because I wanted the BM 710 I'd just get the D2 version.
