I am going to buy my second Benchmade knife shortly(just ordered a BM 350, my first). It probably will be the last knife for a while, and I am looking at the Benchmade 720 and 710. For those who are familiar with these two models, I would like to have your opinion, what you like and don't like about each. Thanks.

How about the 730?

I don't own either, but I do own the 710's baby brother (705), and like it a lot. I greatly prefer G10 to Aluminum handles (before anyone flames me or anything, that's my personal preferrence), so I would go with the 710 of those two, but my favorite Axis is the 730. The contoured handle is really comfortable.

The are both great knives. The main choice is size. If you prefer a larger blade the 710 is your choice.

You will not be sorry with either. IMHO

I prefer a drop point (710) over an upswept or "trailing" point (720), since I tend to do a lot of scoring type cuts, as when slitting open bags and cutting paper or cardboard against a flat surface.

The 720 handle is definitely nice. I'd buy one in a minute if it had a drop-point blade.

Stop when you get to bone.

I never liked the 710, but I bought a 720 and a 730. The 720 is a very nice little knife (when compared to a Spyderco Military or StarMate) and I like it a lot, but it is NOT ambidextrous, if that is important to you. The clip cannot be switched right to left handed because of its design, as can other axis lock knives. The 730 was a great disappointment to me. It is a fine knife, but it is shaped wrong for my arthritic hands. I simply cannot hold it comfortably when I use it. It hurts me every single time that I have tried. One other thing, I find the lock controls awfully small on all of the axis lock knives that I have held, but that may be more a function of my arthritic hands than of their design.

Well, I ordered the 720. I chose it over the 710, basically on looks alone. Now I have convinced myself that there is no reason I should not also get the 710. Is there a 12 step program for knife buying?

Cannot go wrong with the 720.Good choice. But also the 710 is a good choice also.Get it later and you have a win,win situation.Good luck.

Lear, no there is no twelve step program, other than the at least 12 more knives you will buy

Not even two weeks ago, I ordered my first knives, a BM 710HS and 705BT, and then the voices started talking. I just placed another order, for another 710HS (can you tell I like the knife, just had to have two) and a 730BT, with a 910HS a in the future. When will the madness stop!

It is madness At first I didn't like the looks of the 710, buy now I do, and I want one. I thought it would stop there, but now the 730 is looking good, and wait - the 750 caught my eye and.... Now I know why these knife forums sure attract a crowd
