Hi all. First time budding folder fanatic who usually hangs around kitchen knife forums but has lurked here for a while. I have quite a collection of higher end chef's knives but one day I walked into Warriors here in Vancouver to buy a Shun paring knife and lo and behold: wall to wall folders and other cool stuff.
I bought a Para Military for my brother as a gift just because I liked the look of it and that was it. I've spent hours reading up on what's well regarded here and went back to pick up an Endura and a 556, both great knives with the 556 being my city EDC.

Still, I wanted something a bit larger and slicker than the Endura so I narrowed it down to the 710 which seems to be such a classic (and deservedly so). But....I took one look at the Emerson special series of A100's that Jay brought in (his comment " I just kept bugging them and bugging them until they gave in and made them" :D).
The one I really liked the look of was the version with the green scales and the regular blade (black is cool but I don't want to worry about it getting scratched).
When I got my hands on both it didn't take long to make my decision - the 710. It has a sleekness, and combined with the axis lock and slightly cheaper price made it a no brainer.
The A100 is slightly chunkier although the blade was screaming sharp vs just sharp for the 710 and the scales on the A100 are also a lot grippier than the 710 despite their relatively smooth appearance in the photos. All in all the 710 had just the right feel for my hand despite some great points for the A100.

While I was there I got a chance to handle the BM Sibert even though they are all pre-sold at this point. You really need to do a hands on sometimes as the pictures do not prepare you for how chunky this sucker is. Totally a collectors knife vs an EDC IMHO.

thanks to everyone here for the wealth of info

Great first post. I pretty much agree with your assessment of the 710 and the A100. I'm not a fan of the recurve, but the axis and the overall design makes me favor the 710 over the A100. Both you and your brother picked out some outstanding EDC knives. Welcome to the forums:).

eatrustic welcome & for a 1st timer a great review. hopefully we will hear more from yourself in the future since positive members really advance the forum.the 710 is sharp enough & strong enough to handle any edc tasks. while i normally carry an endura due to my work requirements, i realize the strength advantage goes to the 710. also one has to admit [sharpening aside] the 710 sure has a sexy blade profile.thanks for the pfofile.
