I'm looking to buy one last knife (for awhile) and am trying to decide between the two. From what I've seen on this forum and others, both knives are highly praised. So for those of you that are familiar with both, any suggestions? If it matters, the knife would only be used for light EDC.

Thanks.

Ares no question. Main reason for me is the blade shape. I have an easier time without the recurve. If that is not an issue for you than it is basically a wash. 710 is a little bigger, but for me the ergos are better on the 730.

I've got both, and I cannot say anything negative about either one.

But if you prefer something for light EDC, then grab a 732 ARES if you have the chance!

Personally, I don't think there would be any significant difference whatsoever for EDC. From what I recall, I think the 710 has a slightly thinner blade, so it might perform slightly better on some cutting tasks. Then again, just the aesthetics of the Ares's blade are superior (in my opinion). I would rather have 154CM in a knife than D2 (due to sharpenability and corrosion resistance), so that would generally mean leaning towards the Ares.

My bottom line recommendation, though, would be to get the Ares for now, if it's available to you. It's been discontinued for a while now, and will only get harder to find. Since the 710 is still in production, you can always get it later. And in the long run, won't you be a good knife knut anyway, and ultimately end up getting both?

My choice is the Ares hands down. As elmora2 said, there getter hard to find, and they will only get harder.

For my taste, the 710 D2. No contest! :p Best "feel" of any pocket knife I've ever held in my hands. D2 steel, and as close to perfect blade geometry as I've seen.

I would go with the ARES.I fell it is a much more interesting knife.
I think the ergos are better too.Like the others said, it is discontinued
and will be tough to find, tougher the longer you wait!!

I like the Ares if you can find one. If not then you can get a 710 new. If you dont like D2 steel and want 154cm just look for an old 710 that has 154cm. The Ares and the 940 are 2 of the best Benchmade has ever made. GOOD LUCK! Kevin:thumbup:
