How come it seems like no one around here likes this blade? I will admit that I am rather new and that my opinion may not be as informed as most but it sure seems like a nice knife to me. Handles look grippy but not harsh, blade profile looks useful (this is probably the area that I am lest informed in), as light if not lighter than most others, good steel, good lock, equals good knife right? I think I might pick one of these up so please tell me where I went wrong (if you think I did). thanks!

Not a bad choice at all. Benchmade makes lots of good stuff, there's something for everyone. If it appeals to you, buy it with no reservations and don't let anyone tell you different.

Its a great knife. Versatile and strong blade design, comfy, full handle. Cool visuals. Just gets a little overshadowed by the 806D2 and 710HS, I think. And the purple handle probably worked agianst it in the beginning.

I have a 735HS(hacked), a 730S30CF(hacked), and a 732-02D2(hacked again).

In some ways, it is a better design than the two flagship models from Benchmade. It is really about the perfect size. The handle fills your hand and the blade fills the handle, and no more. The larger size of the 806 and 710 don't really provide you with any more cutting ability, and they tend to be scarier for the trembling masses.

Great knife really.

The 730/735 series and the limited editions of these knives are very nice.

I personally found them a little thick for my tastes as a dress carry knife and prefer the 940. That's what's nice about Benchmade, something for everyone.

Enjoy your knife you picked a winner.

The 735 with Green scales is one of my favorites.
Excellent ergos and beautiful execution.
Not always my EDC anymore but no reason why.
It tends to get less attention than other more tactical appearing knives.
Enjoy reading the forums and considering the opinions of others but feel free to have your own!
Group think is not always a good thing.

I was turned off by the multi-colour G10, but then I found a limited edition 732D2BT, black G10 with a D2 blade. I love it, great ergonomics, good cutter, very happy with it. Bought it instead of an 806D2 (since I already had an 805).

Personally, I thought the 806D2 was a little big for office carry, but the 732 fits the bill perfectly, you won't be disappointed if you choose a 73x series ARES from Benchmade. Though some of the special/limited editions might have options that you might prefer.

Just my $0.02

Regards,

Shaun.

It's not a bad knife, it just seems that everyone likes another Benchmade model more than the 730. Me included.

The things that left me cold to the 730 compared to my 710 include a non-recurve blade. The recurve edge on my 710 has really spoiled me, making it hard to live with regular blades anymore ;)

Handle wasn't as comfortable to me as the 710's, too straight, not enough curve. It also seemed less secure than the 710's handle, but haven't used one to confirm this.

Top front edge of the handle always interfered with my thumb when opening the blade. Notice how the 710's handle sweeps back in this area where the 730 sweeps forward. I don't ALWAYS flick my Axis' knives :p

The 730 isn't any smaller in the pocket than the 710, and the 710 has a bigger blade when deployed.

Not normally offered in M2. I like M2 :)

It's a great knife, it simply doesn't do anything better than the 710, and does the mentioned things worse. I will say that the 730CFHS has the sexiest handles I have ever seen on a knife. The 3d texture in carbon fiber....

It certainly is a fine knife, I especially like the basic drop point blade shape.

Personally, I've had two of them and traded them off. They're too basis for my tastes. I have enough knives that I can specialize a bit more to the task. If you told yourself that you were just going to carry one knife (like that ever happens), it would be a good choice. But with all the other choices I have, they just never saw use.

If you like it, be happy with it. It's a fine EDC user.

I just pick up a 730 pre-production model with red/black handles. I prefer the green/black but I got a great deal on the knife. I think the blade has a very useful shape. I found the handle very comfortable in hand, although not quite as my AFCK. Every knife I've handled in this model has very smooth Axis locks, for some reason smoother than my other Benchmades

I really think that the knife gets over shadowed by the 710 and the 806. I think it is a great knife that desirves another look.

I really like the 730. I usually alternate my EDC between the 730 or the 806D2. I would recommend that you check out the 733-02 or 733-01 - They come with a S30V blade which I like much better than the 154CM. The 732D2BT with the D2 steel is really nice too (If you like the black coated blade - And I do :) )

If I ever seen anyone carrying the Red handled one, I'd have to stop and make fun of them. :p

Glad I don't live near you, Walking Man. I'd have to run home and cry a lot.

Thanks guys for the imput! Cargun, I appreciated the comparison between the 710, almost convinced me…guess I’ll have to try and handle one.

I tried to do a search for the 730CFHS and the 733-02 or 733-01 that were also suggested, but I couldn’t find info/pics on any of those. Can anyone help me out?
