Just as the titles says: Is there a Benchmade 732 or 7-something that is exactly like the one I see on the Benchmade site, but without the black blade coating? I like Spyderco, but I would like to own at least one Axis and a 732 Ares Plain Edge without the blade coating would fit what I'd want. I did some research and found some wooden handles, and some swirly red and black or swirly green and black, but that does not suit me well. Plain black g-10 handle with a nice shiny blade is all I ask. I am convinced that this HAD to have been made, I just cannot find a picture of one, much less a place to buy one. Thanks in advance.

Don't think that had been made. Sorry. The Green / Burgandy G10 are the only Satin ones. I remember a limited edition being M2 steel, but not sure if that's black too

If it comes in Combo Edge in satin, it should come in Plain too. I think it's been a LOOONG time since black with satin was made

No. The 732 never came with a satin finished, plain edged blade. It came with a number of different options though.

732BT (early run before they were a full production piece)
732HS - early non-numbered very limited run in M2
732D2BT - numbered limited edition in D2 steel w/BT2 coating
730S KOTM - The April "Knife of the Month" edition released in 2000. This was a limited run of 1000 knives and was done with the satin, partially serrated edge only, with black G-10 handles. This edition proved popular enough to put into full production as the 732.

Those are the only 732 directly related models that I know of.

I have 2 of these knife of the month, and the handle is black w/Green,
at least mine are. Thank goodness, because the red makes me :barf:

The ones you have are the November KOTM. Those were put into production as the 735.

Can anyone ID what this is? Looks like an Ares, but I don't know what variation...

The file name is bmd2ares1.jpg, so I assume the steel is d2, but I was under the impression that the d2 ones were black coated?

The Ares you show is a LE, I think only 100 were made. D2 blade non-coated. I had one for a while and when I sold it on eBay it went for over $200, so they are rare. I foget the model designation though.

As to the blade, if you have the money just buy the knife with the handle you want, then the knife with the blade you want and make a swap. Then sell the other knife (be honest!) at a discount and lose a few bucks.

I did this with an aluminum 710, I added an M2 blade.

Also did a 720 with realtree G-10. The realtree was only available with a black part serrated edge... here's a picture of my bastard one of a kind 720...

That is the 730CFD2. There were 75 of them produced, and all were marked 'Limited Edition' but not numbered.

Many of BM's limited edition D2 blades are not coated.

How easy would it be to get one of the current 732 Ares models with the black coating, and remove the coating? I have never tried anything like this, and I would like it to be as idiot proof as possible. I would assume removing the coating would be the same for all models, because there are a few BM models I like, but the black coating pushes me away.

i was posting regarding my 806d2, but it uses the same BT2 coating as the Ares you're interested in. check out what Steven Roos did to his blade!!!:eek:

both he and glockman99 offer their method on coating-removal. a pal of mine from work did some non-recommended removal of the coating, and while it wasn't the best method, it looks great!!
