BM 735 ares vs 960 vs ?

The long and the short of it is, I think it's time for a new knife^^.

I've carried a 705-401 for about a year now, but currently it's my only real folder (resold all the others), and I'd like something perhaps a little bit bigger to supplement it from time to time.

The two thoughts that come to my mind are a BM Ares (which I've had my eye on for a while), and a 960 Osborne.

One of the things I like about the ares is that it's a fair bit larger then the 705, which might make it a good balance between the 705 and the 806D2 (which was big enough that I found it unwieldy and ended up reselling it).

The 960 Osborne is closer in size to the 705, but still seems like it would feel like a larger knife, so it might well fit my needs (wants;)) as well.

I like the slightly pointy blade of both knives, as for some reason a knife without much of a point just bugs me (and makes it harder to open things).

The knife will be mostly for standard urban edc stuff: opening random stuff, cutting stuff (including light duty in the kitchen when I'm lazy, my knives are the sharpest thing in the house), the occasional camping trip and such, etc.

Does anybody with experience on either/both of these knives have any comments to make or suggestions to offer?

If there's a common LE version of either of these knives that's not too hard to find, I'd be interested in hearing about that as well, 'cause numbers make me feel special.

I am open to other ideas along these same lines, but these two were the ones that have caught my eye recently (I'm pretty much set on BM though, can't go wrong with the axis lock/ambi pocket clip).

The Ares is one of my favorite folders of all time. Even if you get one and it doesn't rock your socks, you'll have no trouble trading or selling it. The flip side of that coin is that the LE versions are about as rare as hen's teeth these days. You do see them for sale, but not nearly as often as even the oh-so-coveted 806.

I've not handled a 960, but I'd bet good money the Ares is almost twice as thick. If you're looking for slim and light, go with the 960.

But again: The Ares is awesome. I'm shamelessly biased, but I think you should get one. :D

Ugh, now I'm really torn.

Looking at the specs on the Ares, it is a lot bigger then the 960, and weighs twice as much, so they really are quite different knives.

I think it's more likely that I'll love the 960 enough to carry it regularly, mostly because it's more similar to the 705. On the other hand, there is something to be said for trying something new and different (even though I ended up selling my 806 and rittergrip, which are more similar to the Ares I think).

The D2 blade steel pushes me slightly towards the 960 as well (I already have two knives in 154cm, so it would be interesting to try something different), and I also have to say that I think the 960 probably looks better:P.

It's too bad there's not a knife shop around to feel them both out.

I guess I'll have to give it a couple of days and just go with my intuition^^.
