Hey gang - fairly new here & this is the first thread that I've actually started. First of all, want to say thanks to all for the insight/reviews/experiences shared that helped me with new knife decisions (& to lighten the wallet ).

I'm interested in your thoughts on the pros & cons of the BM 755 MPR & the soon-to-be released Spyderco Techno. What aspects (including potential resale value) make you lean towards one vs. the other. I'm wanting a stout heavy duty 'little big knife' & am trying to make up my mind between the 2.

Looking forward to your feedback. Thanks!

That's not really fair seeing that the Techno hasn't come out yet. We can't really compare which is better but as far as looks, I vote Techno. The MPR is a fantastic little knife though and you won't be sorry if that's what you go for.

Welcome to the forums.

I guess you're right with it being unfair to truly compare at this point. If one could compare the details we know of such as full ti scales vs. G-10/ti, blade grind, etc., what are your preferences.

Thanks for your input seelow123 & for the welcome.

I would definitely go with the techno because of the full flat grind and I've never tried cts-xhp before so that would be a plus. I think I would also enjoy the the full TI scales more so I could anodize them;)

Hmmm, this is tricky. I have an MPR and LOVE it, and I am planing on buying a Techno when the come out... so I guess I am in the 'buy both' camp. However, I can really understand only getting one. My recommendation would be to get an MPR on the secondary market, I got mine off the exchange for $100, that way if it isn't right for you just sell it and you will lose next to nothing. I also vote for the MPR because its blade is a bit thinner and as much as I love 'pocket-tanks' (my GF's name for them) a thinner blade is more functional in most EDC chores. Don't get me wrong I am really, really looking forward to the Techno, I just can't see it being as comfortable to hold (I wear a size L-XL glove) as the MPR. Hope that helped.
Good luck with your choice, it's a doozy. :)

Welcome to the forums. I have a pre-order for the techno, but until it does come around- I have been looking at the 755. Some of the ones popping up on the exchange have been tempting, but I've manage to hold. As for visual design preference- the techno gets my vote. I wait in eager anticipation.

I have a MPR in my pocket right now. It flatly tears up your pockets more than any other knife I have...by far. Yes, the M390 steel is great. It's a nice, fat knife. I wish BenchMade hadn't made it quite so thick.
My first choice for a HeavyDuty knife would be the Spyderco Gayle Bradley in M4 steel. Great knife, excellent design, loved by all.
The Techno really has a short blade, but lots of folks like those the best. It reminds me of my Spyderco Manix2 with CPM-M4 steel. That was a really nice knife but was too wide of a blade for me. Pretty and efficient but I never carried it. I don't think I'd carry the Techno either.
I prefer my Paramilitary2 with good blade steel; I have several. Nice longer blade, strong, 0.450" thick handle, no reason to go shorter, IMO.

I wanted an MPR until I handled it, way too thick for such a short knife, didn't like it at all, I do really like the larger version though the Adamas, I'd go for the techno.

Appreciate you sharing your experiences/opinions. Now I'm leaning towards the Techno myself.

Sonnydaze - yeah, the Gayle Bradley is one that looks to be universally liked.

I know it's been a while since this post was first written up, but now that the Techno is available, does anyone have any first hand experience with these two knives?

I have modified and carried a MPR for awhile now, I like it and use it for work.

I waved the blade and put a full flat grind on one side to thin it up a bit. This, with removing the pocket clip and adding a lanyard make it really work well.

The M390 is a great steel and it seems to hold an edge well for the amount of abuse it sees. (I dismantle buildings at times, so anything from cutting wire to prying wire staples)

The shape of the blade really lended itself to the wave mod. Which also works great for popping tops off beers.

She is stout and was inexpensive. I almost sent it away until i waved it, now it really works for me.

Regarding the Techno, cant wait to handle one.

Good luck.

I have a Techno and was surprised how ergo it is for the size. Also, for how thick the blade stock is it has an amazingly thin edge. I didn't think I was going to dig it as much as I do. At first I thought the design was ugly, but after having one in hand and personally seeing/feeling the workmanship, I'm very happy with it. The "cog" blue backspacer is a bit sharp so I may sand it down a bit or just make a replacement that is smooth. The moon-glow G10 looks awesome in there.

I've had one 755MPR as a gift...and it sits in a box. It is fat, heavy, thick everywhere, and all I can say is that the blade-length is good and the M390 steel is great.
I've had six or more TECHNO's and love 'em. Easy to carry. CTS-XHP is also an excellent blade-steel, although it won't hold an edge as long as M390. I do plan to "gift" the TECHNO to a grandchild, but I wouldn't ask anyone to take the MPR. The MPR clip has ruined several pockets on my Levi's. To BM's benefit, I have read that they will send out a "revised" pocket-clip to owners. I hope to ask them for one also.
