So i was in the only shop near me that has a halfway decent selection of production folders kershaw, spyderco, benchmade etc... and liked the looks of one in particular the BM 761.

I liked how it felt in my hand and it was extremely smooth, loved the blade shape + M390 all pluses but i'm not seeing a whole lot of love out there and i know about the clip situation and i can get past that.

So what i'm asking is anybody who has experience with this model, do you think it's a good buy at 265.00 which is what i can get it for and is considerably cheaper than iv'e found it online?

I hope this is the appropriate subforum to post and thanks for any feedback.

I like the knife. But i hate the pocket clip and would rather have a bent clip with the option of tip up carry. An example i handled had a pretty dainty lockbar. And at that price i feel er are better options.

I am loving mine. My example is not a "first production run" and does not suffer any of the issues that some have reported from that first batch. It has crazy smooth blade action and I personally appreciate the clip, as it has excellent retention and suits the style of the knife. 265 sounds like a dealio

For me, the price is not really justified. Even at the ridiculously low price the OP is quoting, I still wouldn't get it. That said, this is my personal opinion. That is the lowest price I have ever seen on one. I would think if BM found out they were charging that price you could expect to see not many more BMs come their way. If the knife suits your fancy, looks like you have a good opportunity to pick one up at pre-map pricing even though this knife never came out pre-map. If you like it, get it.

I purchased one from benchmade directly> While I think the knife has it's good points (retention was good on mine, smooth deployment) I had issues with the lockup being solid. I adjusted to the best of my ability, however there was too much wiggle for this type of knife for my liking. Just my .02

Did anyone consider the OP has credit at his local brick and mortar? No need to get the MAP pitchforks out.

I have reservations regarding the octagonal "adjustable" stop pin also. experiences anybody...

i think it is used , the origininal price would be more than $250

Right. And also more than the quoted $265. That said, the OP never said used.

No, because he didn't say that. Anything else would be speculation. And this is General. The OP is asking about Price. MAP is relevant. 2 years ago this knife would be priced accordingly. At the Map price this thing goes for $330. Sorry, for that money I will save up for a large Seb 21. Oh wait, I did! With Micarta inlays no less!

In store 1 in stock item 20% off coupon.

That explains the price a little more. I wouldn't think BM will be happy about this as it is against their dealer rules. If you want it, get it. You will not find a better price.

When i see what the Ritter M390 grips go for and then add the cost of some Wilkins Ti custom scales and this looks like a better deal all the time.

I know we're talking different locks but still... seriously leaning towards taking a drive tomorrow.

331.50 x 20% = 66.30 331.50 - 66.30 = 265.20

I never said anything about if it's a good buy or not. When the OP stated he could "get the knife for 265" my first thought was that he had some sort of credit, not that the knife was used or this dealer was not following the rules. Thats what I was pointing out since everyone was assuming the latter. I'm sure the knife is being advertised according to MAP which is what MAP is. Benchmade has no jurisdiction over store credit or promotional deals (coupons etc.)

I too would rather spend the cash on something else :)

And nor did I say you said anything about it being a good buy, or used, or if the dealer was following the rules. You mentioned store credit which the OP did not. You also mentioned MAP pitchforks, which was a direct comment towards me since I brought up MAP, which is relevant since the OP is asking about price.

I think benchmade would think they have every bit amount of jurisdiction over promotional deals (but not store credit, since that is not what we are dealing with here). Don't want to sell the knife at BMs price? Then they don't have to sell you any more knives to deal.

I do agree though, on this particular knife I would go elsewhere. However, sometimes you just have to have something even if it makes no sense. If this is that particular case for sechip then this is the best deal on a knew 761 he is likely to see, so why not go for it.

It looks like a really beefy folder to me. I don't like tip down, but it's not a deal breaker. If you handled it and
you like it I'd say go for it, since that's probably the best deal that you can get on one. If it were full price I'd
probably save up for a Sebenza like was suggested. Not sure why a stop pin needs to be adjustable though, maybe
someone can fill us in.

Just my 0.02 on the whole MAP bit. MAP = Minimum Advertised Pricing, therefore as long as the knife is advertised at $330 (or whatever), no rules are being broken. Benchmade does not have jurisdiction over final sales price (to my understanding).

From what I understand MAP is just "minimum advertized price" policy. I dont think it means that dealers cant sell lower they just cant put their price in a sales flyer or advertise online that price.

Personally. I would rather save up another Hundo and find a good price on a Sebenza. From everything I have read about the 761, it has a pretty weak detent (I have yet to handle one so it's all hearsay) and I am not much for the weaker detents.

Plus I'm a little partial to my CRKs. Although, back when I was looking at the 761, it was with a $330 price tag. I would have considered it a little harder at the $260 mark. At 330 it was a DEFINITE no brainer to go with my first CRK. The after experiencing my Sebenza...it seems like it's always going to be a no brainer

There are some BM's that I really like. I don't have any knowledge of this one. But the clip looks a lot like one that came on my BM 755 MPR...the most terrible clip I've ever seen. It laid over really grippy G10 and just tore the heck out of my pants until I stuck it in a drawer...and left it there.
