Hello,

I really want to get a 770 Carbon Fiber for dress carry.....

The BC1 coating that is offered, is it worth it? What is the benefit of it? Also it isn't as dark black as like BT coating or something correct?

Could someone post a picture of 770 and 770 BC1?

Could someone tell me a safe place to order a 770? As I see it's backordered on BM's site.

Thanks!

Here you go:

BTW BM has several 77x models, IMHO those are more appealing visually, matter of taste of course. And BC is well worth it, especially on non stainless blades.

Take a look:

I have had a 770 ever since I first heard about them. I bought a prepoduction version from Grand Prairie Knives and have never regretted it, even at the higher price that I paid for not waiting. It is my second favorite BenchMade knife, following the much newer 921 Switchback, also by Warren Osborne. The 770 is, along with the Spydie Kiwi, a premier Gentleman's Pocketknife. It has a 3" blade and packs immense cutting power into a tiny package that is quite exquisitly finished. My cf version has bevelling on all edges of the scales and very nice file-work on almost all non-sharpened metal edges, even the pivot screw on the non-slotted side. This is one very handsome little package that, as I said, packs a lot of cutting ability. The big advantage that it has over the Kiwi is that it has a pocket clip which I very much prefer. But that clip is right side only.

I do not like coatings on my blades as all that they seem to accomplish is to present another surface to get scratched up and otherwise defaced in general use, so I recommend that you go for the plain steel finish on the blade.

Here is an excellent dealer and a whole raft of pics: http://www.knifeworks.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=665

IIRC, BM changed the look of the carbon fiber sometime after the initial run. I've had this 770 BC-1 for a few months now and like it a lot. It rotates as my workday EDC with a WH kestrel and WH Monarch. I like the weightlessness of carbon fiber for business dress. It's also my only Axis lock knife. The Axis is simply a joy to operate and confidence inspiring during [relatively] heavy use.

Photos aren't great, but should show you the difference between Gator's and the one's available today.

I haven't checked spoon river in a while, but I purchased my 770 from Walter Krafft at http://spoonrivercutlery.com/. He's a great dealer and I'd buy from him in a heatbeat and recommend him at any chance. If you don't see the 770 on his site, try dropping him an email to inquire about availability.

And lastly, all three of my carbon fiber EDC's:

When did BM change the blade shape of the 77xs? I've seen one 770BC1 that has a very slight recurve, but all the 77x series look like that portion of the blade is straight. The pictures I've seen look like the 770 is also the straight shape.

I have the 77X with D2 blade and green/black G10 handle, it is very handsome, carries the flyweight qickness and finesse with a midleweight reach and punch.

FlatS,
The blade shape has a minute recurve edge indeed.

PatrickB,

How is the comfort of the handle of the 770 series compared to the WH's? I have been thinking of the 770 series lately as well as the WH T-10, either in ironwood or carbon fiber, but I like the axis lock better than any thing I have seen. My only concern with the 770's from BM is handle comfort. The small cut out for the thumb stud looks like it would be uncomfortable to use for any extended period of time, such as whittling. Also, is the blade ground fairly thin or thicker like other BM's? Thanks.

oh..i thought that recurve bit was a manufacturing defect on mine...
it's a really small portion that it's negligible...
i just sharpen it straight with a dmt diafold like it's not a recurve...

it is a nice gent's folder. smart and strong for its size.
