Help! I'm trying to decide between the Benchmade 940, the Benchmade 750 Pinnacle, and the Al Mar SERE 2000. Which has the strongest, most reliable lockup? Which has the best feeling handle? The best blade?

Thanks for your help. I have no access to any of these knives locally and I'm going nuts trying to decide!

What do you want the knife for? The BM 750 & SERE 2000 are heavy duty tactical types. The BM 940 is more a gentleman's knife or large pocket knife.

Basically, I'm looking for an all around carry knife that I can use while hiking, fishing, and camping. It would be used for non-defensive chores.

I'd carry it in my pocket without the clip attached.

Thanks again.

As stated above the 940 is more of a gentleman's knife. It is a nice piece but I wouldn't recommend it for your uses.

I like the SERE 2000 the best of the ones you mentioned. Here is a thread that has a lot of info about the SERE 2000:

The SERE 2000 carries very deep in the pocket with the clip.

I use and depend on my 750 daily. This knife is used very hard and abused,no blade play and locks up very very solid.Ive owned it for about 6 months or so.Decent knife IMO.

I vote for the pinnacle. Its a hell of a tough knife. The titanium handle is not only strong but has good ergonomics to it and it gives you a good grip due to its bead blast finish. The blade is just as beefy as the handle, but with the proper sharpening will cut pretty much anything well. Its got a good thick cross section to it all the way out to the tip, but the geometry of the grind keeps it from being overly thick anywhere. The swedge on the back of the blade looks a little funny at first, but what it does is make a for a super strong point that still penetrates well. Its sort of a reinforced clip point.
My favorite thing about this knife is its balance. Its balance point is right at the stop pin. Very few heavy duty folders have that good of balance, they're usually very handle heavy.
The lockup is very strong but easy to disengage one handed ( when you want to that is, not on accident). The first few times you push on the liner it seems stiff as hell, but once its all broken in it works great.
plain edge or combo edge you won't be dissapointed.

It'll feel better when it stops hurting.

I also suggest the SERE 2000. It is a rock solid knife with a all purpose design. The 750 is great knife , but I believe the g-10 handle on the SERE is better for outdoor use.
