I have been looking for a while now for an EDC which has a low to medium profile, yet has a 3.25 to 4 inch blade. After looking at many I decided these two are among my first picks.
Hardly ever see or hear any thing about the Mcusta though.
Comments? Anyone familiar with both of these?

For what it's worth, the 943 is probably my favorite knife. It's light, doesn't tear up your pocket, has a small profile in the pocket but a large and useful blade length, and has one of the best locks out there. The only downside is that the handle can get scratched up.

the Mcustas are pretty well made, i prefer their faux damascus, siding of damascus with a VG-10 core

I'm probably going to try to trade a knife for a 943.
Not a fan of tanto's (absolutely LOVE the 940), but the utilitarianism of the 943 has always attracted me.
I can't find a damn thing wrong with my 940, but I do wish it was a 943.
The 943 covers more bases for the worker.

I just picked up a Mcusta tactility and I honestly think its one of the nicest knives you can find for under $200. It was also sharper than any kershaw, benchmade, or spyderco I have purchased. Its hard to beat the axis lock for ease of use though. I don't think you will be disappointed with either, you just need to decide which to buy first. ;)

I have never handled a Mcusta but they look beautiful. I have played with a 940 though and what a slim package for such a useful blade. Smooth and quick too. I am not a fan of the 943 blade though.. looks like a broken tooth to me lol i dunno. I will definitely be getting a 940 down the line. So I say be different and get the Mcusta!

I've handled a few Mcusta's, and been meaning to buy one for a while. (Guess theres just more knives i want more), but in terms of the 943, ive got an SBK and its by far one of my favorite knives. Carries nicely in the pocket, wicked fast, great lockup, etc, etc, etc. I'd say if you prioritize aesthetics of a gentlemans knife, go with the mcusta and if you want a stronger knife, go with the 943. you wont be disappointed either way

Thanks very much everyone I have been looking for a good deal on used one but rarely see one for sale. Now I can see why.
Anyone know of any real competitive online sources, or a place you can get factory seconds?

I personally have not been impressed with BM in my limited experience and believe there are far too many companies out there making just as good if not a better product for the same money of less.

On the other hand I really like Mcusta. They know how to treat their VG-10 and their stuff is different then most anything on the market. I don't know that they have anything that would be considered hard use that would stand up to the punish that say a ZT would take, but how often do we really need something like that out of a folder. I don't.

+1 for the 943 for light EDC

Flashpoint, I've never handled or seen any Mcusta knives in person. What would you recommend as a particularly good model?

Also, I love the sig line! :)

I have an Mcusta similer to the brown folder in the pic, sans the thumb hole. I have an extensive knife collection and this is one that i often grab daily. fit and finish is very good for a production knife. great edge and it just fits well and is more useable than some other folders. This knife is the best apple cutter. Mine has somthing like 33 layers of nickel on the VG 10. Great knife overall, hope that helps. P.S. i agree with flashpoint, how war proof does your edc really need to be

I can tell you what I've seen that I don't like. If you look on the MC-10, the butt of the handle the corners are not as rounded as I'd like it to be so it makes a mild hot spot for me. The MC-12 and MC-12d fit perfectly. I've been keeping my eyes open for one of their Basic Series in Damascus for a while.

I own a 943 and I used to own a Mcusta tactility. Either would be a fantastic choice. I really like the pocket clip on the Mcusta, and the fact they are a bit less common is actually a plus to me. I sold mine because I wasn't using it, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy and carry another.

same model flashpoint posted above but with damascus and thumbstuds

i actually just received my first mcusta about an hour ago in the mail. i purchased the MC-12 with black micarta hand scales. this knife is beautiful. nice, sleek blade with a low profile. i would absolutely recommend this knife. blade length measures 3 and quarter inch so it meets your requirements. first, decide whether you want an axis or a liner lock and go from there. i, personally hold a soft spot in my heart for liner locks but the axis is amazing as well. for normal everyday knife use liner or axis makes no difference. its really a matter of preference. good luck!

You mean Benchmade or Mcusta?

Liner lock is the one I am used to.

Well if that is the case, NEVER buy an axis lock! they will spoil you rotten! No, im just messin' with ya. you should definitely give the axis lock a shot. its amazing. however, if you are content with liner locks then mcusta is the brand for you in my opinion.
