So I picked up an old Benchmade AFCK mini at a gunshow this weekend. One of the side logos is badly dented, and it has some wear, but for $30 I thought it would make a good edc blade. However, upon disassembly, I found that the plastic backspacer is cracked. As you can see, the tip is broken off, and there is also a crack in the part remaining. It functions, but I'd like to replace it. Benchmade doesn't have parts for something this old, but I seem to recall hearing about someone who replaced the spacer with metal collars on this model. Does anyone know exactly what works for this? Thanks in advance!

The tip is easy to fix with a little grinding. The backspacer should also be easy to replace. A copy can be made out of any number of materials, using the original as a template. This is not so hard to do, so I think you did fine for your $30. If you hire another to do the repairs instead of doing them yourself, it will likely double the cost of your knife.

I hafta look, I remember postin' somethin' about it when my spacer broke, I bought some aluminum tubing and cut it then hand filed it to spec, it worked great, later while I had the facilities at work I turned down some stainless stock and repaced the Aluminum.

Look in the archives if ya get a chance, there's even a nice photo disassembly walk through I did awhile back.

You did good. I was once going to replace that spacer with a solid piece of aluminum on a full size AFCK. I was just going to cut a piece to match the plastic one and actually extend it a little to reduce the flex of the scales. The only odd thing was getting the right thickness. Never got around to it. Since your's is a mini thickness might be different and more available. Can you measure it?

Send the knife up to Benchmade for servicing. You pay for the postage there and $5 for return shipping...but you'll get a repaired and fully functional knife in return. 800-800-7427...ask for Customer Service.

Fine knife and good deal for what you paid for it~!

Great lock-up. The one I carry regularly has been flipped hundreds of
times and the lock looks just like yours. The AFCK is a true classic.
