BM Ares/730 steel

Hey - does anyone know if the production model of the 730 is going to be in 154CM? That's what it sez on the knifecenter site, however the (what I believe are) pre-production models are ATS-34 - you know, the ones with the shall we say DISTURBING mauve/black swirly G-10 handles? And on that subject, knifecenter also sez the knife will be available with a variety of (presumably less vertiginous) handle options. Anyone know the scoop?

i know that the steel will be 154cm. that was confirmed on the benchmade forum. i'm not sure on the handles though. i sort of like the colors on the preproduction lot. a black and green or black and blue would look good.

Have you seen/handled one of these in person? At least a few people on this forum (and/or Benchmade's ?) have commented that the "mauve" is a darker maroon and looks much more subdued in real life. The digital images we've seen on the 'net seem to make it look lighter than it really is.

Don't know this for a fact, just relaying...

i own a pre-production 730....285/1000, and i think it looks purple, a dark purple but none the less purple. and i love it!
 
The speciman I handled was a darker maroon color with swirls of black.
VERY nice, if only it didn't have that damn combo edge, I woulda snapped it up right then and there.

i hear ya about the combo edge but i just couldn't resist that pre-production model or wait for the plain edge to come out!
