This weekend I was lucky enough to pick up this beautiful BM Ares Leupold Tactical LE W/ Wine Wood scales.

If I have my history correct it was released in 2006. Two versions were released at the time, The Wine Wood scales version, 1500 pieces made along with a Sand colored scales version 500 pieces made. The steel is 154CM and both were offered in CE only.

I just love the Wine Wood scales.

Wanted to share but also ask if anyone has any history to add on this model as I'd love to hear about it.

Thanks!

That's nice... I like the scales. I've been using Leupold scopes for years, but never picked up any of the knives branded with their logo

Thanks! I think that's the only knife run Leuplod had made for them with their Logo but I could be wrong. Never heard of any others.

when I think Leupold I think scopes too. However I remember this model from back in the day. Not when it first came out but later on.

Thanks guys!

I have to say I think it's a great looking knife too. Also, been wanting an Ares for a long time.

Nothing like the Ares, lucky to own three of them. The wood variant was complimented by a tan G-10 version. Again, if these were offered in a satin (or at least PE) they would've been even better sellers.

Oh my that is pretty. Love bm and leupold and always wanted an ares. Definitely on my wish list right under the 57 Ferrari 250. I'm just as likely to get either I think.

Leupold does have some other knives branded with their stuff on it, for promo purposes, but from what I've seen, they're shitty, to be quite honest.

I have the sand colored version, but it was a pre-production prototype I think, since it is 0 of 500. (Zero of 500) and came through Leupold when I was an agent.
Love it, but I have been lusting for a BM Balisong so it might be time for it to go.

Resurrecting this very old thread, I just traded for one of these and it’s in unused, near perfect shape. Beautiful knife, can’t believe this didn’t become a regular model.

It was a regular model. My favorite Benchmade model, actually. A Benchmade Ares. They had many limited editions. I remember the Leupold edition. I don’t think they ever made them in plain edge versions, so I never bought one.

Feels like every Ares I see for sale nowadays is a limited edition, which is too bad -- I'm a fan of all the BM/Elishewitz collabs and would love to have a couple of these, but I try to avoid the limited runs since they make me reluctant to use them.

They did make them in plain edge, although subjectively it feels like I see a lot more of the partially serrated kind. No doubt this is because I prefer plain edge -- somewhere out there there's someone who really wants a partially serrated limited-edition Ares and is frustrated because he only sees regular-production plain edges for sale ... :)
