I just got my BM Ares today. I love it. I actually shelved my MT M-SOCOM. Because its so new I am wondering what inputs you all out there might have. I was happy to find out that BM is using 154cm for the blade. Any info on this knife would be appreciated.

I love mine, too. It is my favorite non-custom folder out there (okay, maybe the 'Classic 2000' Sebenza, but I still like the look of the Ares better). A lot of non-knife-people like how it looks, even if they are afraid to actually hold it, which is a plus as far as not having to deal with "what knid of psycho has a knife" as much. Some complain about the color, but I like it, and it's nice to stand out from the crowd (p.s., if you get a chance, set yours down open on a black table with the light coming in at a 45-degree angle; the effect is really nice). The lock is great, second only to the integral lock (as in, the Sebenza or Benchmade's 750), only due to ease of cleaning, and the ambidextrous nature of the Axis lock pretty much evens the two out. The blade is great for either utility or self-defense, and the handle is very secure in my hand, due to the contouring. The only thing I think Benchmade forgot is that the contouring makes the clip a little tight, but that is easy enough to fix. I haven't used the knife extensively, so I can't comment on the steel, but it shouldn't be any different than the ATS-34 (the two are so close to identical that I doubt anyone can tell the difference, if they aren't marked).

I really like Elishewitz's designs, so I have both the 730 and 140HS, and that will tide me over until I have no choice but to get a real one.

When I first saw the Ares, I thought, "Gee, what a neat knife!" and ordered one. When I got it, I was most disappointed. The bulk of the scales and liners combine with the location of the pocket clip to put pressure on the heel of my hand when I hold it for cutting and it very rapidly becomes painful for me. I paid $95 for this knife and I cannot use it as it hurts my hand every time. I cannot believe the lousy ergonomics! I have carried it no more than 3-4 times and will carry it no more. If anyone wants it, they may have it for my cost, plus shipping, and they will get the box and all paperwork, just email to my Yahoo! email, above, for arrangements.

Hey Guys...

Got my 730 Ares last week from www.marshmanbrothers.com and I Really like it...

The first one I seen was a customers numbered edition,,and liked it so much I ordered one the next day.I picked the plain blade over the 50/50 just for a change.. I really like the Elishewitz design and have an 875 Sentinel as well as the Nimravus and just ordered the Nimravus Cub so it's big brother wouldn't be lonely...

The sheaths on the Nimravus models are kind of Goofy although they look cool and are pretty well made. I just hate snaps of Any kind on a sheath.

Nice to be a sheathmaker at times like this..

Being a lefty myself, I just can't find anything better than an axis-lock right now and the 730 is the perfect size for daily carry. Right between the 710 and 720.

Eric,
Hey that's my 730 your talking about.
Yes, I love all the sheaths I got from you.
I find myself using the neck sheath more than the belt rig. But speaking of the belt rig, yes it is very nice. I actually wear it horizontal in the small of the back and can draw with my left hand with a quick downward motion. If I had a camera I would post some pics.

BM Ares? What BM Ares? OH! You mean the 730? Ha. Sorry, that doesn't register as the Ares in my mind. Possibly the bastard child of the 880 and the Axis lock, but an Ares it is not. I was so psyched when I heard BM was making that pretty Ares with an incredible lock. Then I saw the abomination. I'm not a fan of the handle colors, but that's not what did it for me. It's that blade and the handle shape. Ick. As the 730, it's great, but to say it is based on the Ares is silly. Absolutely silly. I'm glad YOU enjoy it. That's what REALLY matters.

My main complaint about the 730 is fairly minor, and it has to do with the way the false edge reduces the spine thickness right where I want to put my thumb.

It's a good knife.

Stop when you get to bone.

I thank you all for the responses. I think that the aries (730) is an important knife for BM. It's the first time the are using 154cm. I know that it has may of the same properties as ATS-34, but it should be more rust resistant. Love it or hate it I think this knife will do really well. About the handle colors. Yes, it's strange, but that gives this knife character. I just wish that BM made there torx a bit easier to work with.
