So I traded my Westmark small hunter and this Buck I couldn't get rid of, for a Benchmade Mini-Barrage! He found me and offered me a choice of two 585s. One had a satin 154CM, and the other was a black 154CM blade. Satin had a tiny chip towards the tip, black was worn to hell. I took the satin. Both had their age and use, but this guy couldn't have taken any care for these knives.. So dull and they have gone without any cleanings. I'm picky with my knives' action. So here we go...

Has anybody else ever took the plunge of completely disassembling and cleaning a Benchmade with the "AXIS Assist" lock? Me, being me, traded up to a 585 Mini-Barrage and it was very poorly taken care of. Hard water build up in the screws, rust and gunk between the liners and scales, really poor actions and gritty noise and feel. I looked at the knife a few minutes and decide what the hay, it's a Benchmade.. Home I came.. I ate then decided to take it apart and see what I could do. I started, got everything good and very well cleaned and now it came up to the reassembly. I thought it was be just as easy going back as it was coming apart. I fooled with this son of a gun for 3 doggone hours.. I couldn't find anything of how the lock system worked so putting it together was like doing an obsticle course in the dark. Finally, I tried something and it magically went back together! Solid Omega and tension spring, secondary lock was functional again, and it sprung hard. Great knife and it was so easy to sharpen. In all, I got this thing for $26.00. That's the amount I paid for the Buck. I got the Westmark in a trade for a Zippo lighter, and I got the lighter in a shed I was searching through while cleaning. I feel like it was a good trade.. Another Benchmade in my pocket. Pics later!

I have done this on a couple of Benchmades that I own. Usually to bead blast the G10 scales to get that sheen off of them. I love G10, just not theirs...too slippery. The last one I tackled was a BM 583-1 Warn.

I seen videos of disassembly but could find anything on reassembly.. I want a different colored backspaces for this thing. I thing a blue glow g10 with orange glow speckled micarta scales would look amazing in this.
