BM axis lock prone to rust?

I've seen a few anecdotal remarks here on the forums that the Benchmade axis lock is prone to rust (i.e., a knife owner notices the lock feels 'funny,' opens up the knife, and discovers the lock mechanism is rusted on the inside but shows no signs of rust on the exterior of the knife).

Has anyone had first-hand problems with a rusty axis lock?

I used to worry about that, but never experience it. I think it is made of 410SS which is very very stain resistant, but who knows. I wanna know too. Anyone?

I repaired the spring on one that had been dropped in the kitchen sink when it was full of water. Both the springs had rusted without being noticed and eventually one broke. I would suggest not using it around a marine environment for prolonged periods, especially salt water and if it does get wet blow dry it out to get all the moisture out or spray it down or oil it down to prevent rust. One out of many doesn't mean there is a problem. I am sure many people carry them on boats off and on.

Never had any problems with mine...but the combination of frn, carbon steel and a difficult to clean axis lock makes it a weak pick for potentially wet duties (my cabela's d2).

I'm really not concerned about it though.
