BM Barrage or Emerson Mini-Commander?

Looking to get a new knife and I am torn between the Emerson Mini-Commander and the BM Barrage. I will be getting either on in a Black and Serrated blade. Does anyone have any pros and/or cons about both knives? I absolutely love the axis lock but I also have two Benchmades (710 and 551) so I was kind of looking for something new. Thanks for the help.

These are two very different beasts... yes, both have 154cm but the bm is an axis lock and em is a liner, both will be fast, BUT... the emerson's handles are a much grippier G-10, the bm is a smooth plastic, the emerson can deploy straight out of pocket while the bm is assisted... they are very different. emersons are workhorse hard users, bm blue class is more light every day use, both have good warranties and are good knives for their own uses but very different, go with the one that fits your situation

I know they are completely different knives but I like them both and will probably end up owning both eventually.

Oh, i know that feeling! it's great, just that money issue... i would go with the barrage first if you can get it at a good price and build up to the em... you will appreciate the knife more and the bm will still be useful

Yeah, my money tree holds me back on a lot of things. I really like the Emerson a lot. Are then any down sides to it? I wont be working with it since I have my 710 for that. I was wanting the Emerson as my everyday carry, after work type of deal.

IDK where you work but you might find the emerson surpassing your 710 as a work horse! the em is a recurve, some don't like this blade shape but i think it works for all around purposes, it has a liner lock which people either love or hate, some say not that reliable but i don't feel that is an issue with emerson liner locks and many would agree. sxis locks are ok, but they have omega springs that break after a lot of use and mine developed blade play (to be expected though)... many grow out of AO knives but i doubt you will grow out of an emerson

Well the only reason I use my 710 for all my work is because it is beat up. I lost it a few years ago and about a year after I lost it my friend stepped on it out in the woods. It was rust pits all over it so I don't really care if it gets beat up more. Also, I think a liner lock on a quality knife is great and wont fail but the ergonomics of the axis make it extremely nice in a "one hand" situation. IMO

Either one will be easy to open/close in a one handed function... I have an axis and like it, but it is not my fav.... overall it is going to go to the em but both are good knives

The Emerson is probably what I am going to get. Just looking for some info. Thanks for the quick replies and help. I will be hanging around here for a while. I will keep you posted on what I get.

Goose, I just purchased a 585 Mini Barrage and the fit and finish was very nice. One thing I didn't like about it was its kinda slippery in the hand. Especially the thumb rest... there is no jimping. With the slick steel liners and Valox handle slabs it felt like my thumb wanted to keep slipping towards the blade. Since it's new, hopefully future models will address that issue with some nice jimping. :)

Also in the first day I had it the spring assisted opening broke. After that I couldn't keep the blade closed and had to apply a good amount of pressure to open it fully. I ended up having to send it back.

Hopefully that was an isolated problem, but now I can see that happening with any assisted opener at any time.

Good luck finding the right EDC... I'm in the same process now that I had to send my new 585 back. :)

oh well I missed chiming in on this one but I feel like you made the right choice.

hope you enjoy it. worst case you can trade it for a barrage D:
