I have what I think is a BM Brend 600 Talon 1. I do not have the box or papers I have the knife (has never been sharpened except at the factory) limited edition number under 500, and the Cordua sheath. What would this knife be worth? Any ideas?
TIA

hardhart,
I will do that. It has just been sitting around I have never carried it or used it. I prefer to use mine. I am more of a user than a collector.

new in box, with serial number & rebel flag, it can fetch 125-150 or so.......

Probably a lot since there's no such thing as a Benchmade Brend Combat Talon I...

A Combat Talon II, on the other hand, does exist.

Thanks for the smartass remark.
I was told some time ago by Benchmade that the knife I have is a Talon 1 not a Talon 2. From what I was told the Talon 1 did not have a pocket clip and the Talon 2 had a pocket clip. Benchmade also told me that the Talon 1 was 1991 Knife of the year. Sorry, if I got the wrong information from Benchmade. I was only repeating the information that I was given. I could be wrong if so please forgive me for passing along the wrong info.
Thanks

does it have one liner or two?

I want myself a Brend either way :D, but I think that was also a difference.

hardhart,
Thank you for the civil comments. To answer your question, it has two liners.
Also sorry about my last post. I am new here and was a little quick to respond to the post from "Partidge". I was just passing along information on a knife that I have and feel that the info that I received is correct. If it is wrong please educate me instead of insulting me.

No prob. IIRC that is not a Talon II, those had just the single liner for the lock. I'm pretty sure BM told you right

The Talon had two liners and the Talon II had one. Your knife is a first series Talon and has been referred to as the Talon I.

The Talon I did exist.

It has dual liners, no pocket clip, a softer blade grind and some had a spanner screw for a pivot (instead of an Allen head).

It's one of the most sought after BM's as a collectable.

There is no "Talon I" What you're talking about is the 1991 special edition, which didn't have any numerical designation, it was just "Combat Talon"

The naming was corrected to "Combat Talon II" because the blade is designed after Walter Brend's Model 2 Combat knife design, thus they're both technically Number 2 blade designs.

Here's BM's catalog from the intro year:

Here's what a Brend model 1 blade looks like:

And a model 2:

Note the Model 2 has a recurve, as do all of the benchmade talons.

Thank you everyone for you help in finding the actual name of the model I have. As Partridge shows it is a Brend #600 Combat Folder Spcial Edition.
I would still like to find an aproximate a value for it. I am thinking of selling it since it is somewhat rare. It would be nice for it to end up in someones collection, rather than ending up as a daily carry knife.
Thanks again to everone.

So does he have a Combat Talon, or a Combat Talon II? It seems to be the former, as the name change could also have come due to the changes in construction (ie dual to single liners) This seems a bit more likely, as you stated that the first recurve model did not have the II designation, so it seems that came more from the fact that it was a second execution of the design by BM more than the similarity of the blade profile to the Model 2.

And considering the knife came out 15 years ago in not too great a quantity; a total understanding of the naming convention one way or the other, even by BM employees, doesn't seem likely.

I could buy your argument, except that that particular blade style has been called a Combat Talon II by Microtech, and Boker (who currently has the license to produce their version of the knife, very similar to the benchmade one). Whitewolf knives and Cutters knife and tool also called their brend folders Model 2's.

Partridge is correct in stating that there is no Talon I, but the original Talon is often referred to as the Talon I to differentiate it from the version that followed. What cshooter has would appear to be an original Talon.

Thank you everone for your help.

I am still trying to get an estmated value.
Thanks for your help.

the last one i saw sell (its been 5 or 6 yrs now) went for IIRC $250 or so, it was LNIB in the box, and was the 1 with the dual liners. i know a few yrs ago the collector interest was high, very high on that model, i dont know if it still is or not, i had one myself back in '00 or so, it wasnt LNIB though, ~ 90% or so, i got $200 trade value on it IIRC. like i said i havent seen one for sale in a few yrs now, ya will just have to do some research on it, see if ya can find one which has sold lately, imho not having a box is gonna knock some value off it as most collectors want/demand LNIB(like new IN THE BOX) shape to bring a premium price but i remember a couple selling for quite a bit in just 90% shape which for a collector knife is unusual.

though it was designed after the brend custom its a LOT smaller than the brend custom FWIW.
