I have one I got for $80 and it's worth every penny, 1'' penetraton with one hand stabs into a phone book, and about 3/4 " penetration on fresh pine logs. I could throw it with some accuracy within a few tries...not from across the yard, but you slow somebody down.
I suppose what I'm getting at is me likey Rat - 5.
I think with one in each hand you could climb a tree, they are stout! It isn't a Busse, but it also wasn't 300 some dollars. It went toe to toe against a Busse this weekend and I was pleased. The busse was bigger, but for a moderate size knife it is the deal, and very nice sheath I think. Very servicable piece of equipment. I wouldn't be scared of a lightly used one!

i held one at budk this past weekend, (yes i live in the same town as budk) and it felt VERY sturdy.. i got the fever bad. the only thing is, i love serrates. a knife is just more versatile with them. it doesnt wear down the straight blade all that bad. but also adding in my lack of experience with ontario serrates could be not all that important.

What handle material does your apparition have? There's a bunch out there so I am curious.

I asked STM for some pics of the Rat-5 but have not decided yet as I am really (I think) looking for a Rat-3. So, as far as I know, it is still up for grabs guys. And as he said the first "I'll take it!" rule applies. :)

Thanks for the pics STM.

email incoming on the BM 720, RAT 5
