BM Combat Talon II handle shape?

I was rummaging through my collection this morning and came across an old BM Walter Brend Combat Talon II. This one is from the old days, when BM wanted to use anodized aluminum handles on everything! My question is, why the angular shaped, trade mark Brend pommel? I have never seen in print the reason for this unique boxy handle shape. Maybe I'm looking too far into the subject, but I felt with the wealth of knowledge here at the forums, someone would have a clever answer. Thanks!
