I found a new BM "Emerson" CQC-7 with black CE blade in a knife shop today. They want $160 for it.

Is that too much?

I really want one but I hesitated to buy it.

What do y'all think?

The Benchmade CQC7's make appearances from time to time on eBay.

You can do a search there and see if one is available now.

$160 is about par for that knife if you're a collector.

I got one just before they stopped production, for a few bucks less than that, but a knife store will have to charge more than internet.

It's a good, tough knife, for sure.

Holy crap!!!

I have one of these in my pocket that I paid $65 for in 1995! It was my police academy graduation gift. It's been my evey-day-carry knife and duty knife ever since. Anyone wanna make a deal!?! Black-T has worn off the edges of the blade a bit, and the clip is a little worn/scratched, but otherwise its held up perfectly.

Just kidding. I really love the thing as it's been with me through thick and thin. I guess I've never appreciated the value of the thing being a daily user (and treated as such). Makes me reconsider putting the two discontinued Stykers (9100S/9500S) I just ordered away in the safe for a few years.

Hmmmm... :D

I know a hardware store that has had a couple of BM CQC7s with bead blast blades that are plain and partially serrated sitting on the shelf for years unless someone has picked them up(haven't been in that store since summer). As I recall, they were ~$100-120 tops. I see in your profile that you are "LE". My best friend is a cop, and I believe they give discounts to police there.
If you are interested in having me try to pick one up for you--my cost(or his if it's less)+shipping, I'd be happy to call or go by there, and see if they're still available.

i wouldnt pay $160 for one, i have seen them for sale on the forums for $100-$120 many times, a while back i got a 975S-BT (the 3.9" blade version) in 95% shape for $75. $160 is too high.

also there is a HK version for sale/swap in the appropriate forum right now, dont remember the price/or if its for swap.

I have the black bladed PE. Great knife. Mine is in ATS34 with the early Emerson logo and for all the carry use it has seen it is in remarkably great shape. One thing I am surprised about is that the liner lock on it hasn't moved one iota in years since it settled into where it is now. Go figure that one out. It is the easiest opening folder I own. It is like it is on well oiled glass or something. I have thought about trading it off but every time I pick it up I just say why? It is easily the finest EKI or BM folder I have owned. I have owned a bunch too. Keepem sharp

Thanks for the advice guys.

Owen,

I really appreciate your offer. I have a line on another new 970 in my area that I'm going to check out. If that falls through, I may just take you up on that offer. I've been in LE for the past 22 years... Currently supervise a SC unit... we're far too busy I hate to say...

Again, it was nice of you to offer a favor. Thanks.

I bought a BM CQC-7 new some years ago. It is one of the strongest knives I have used, and abused.
I paid around one hundred and thirty for it. I sent it back to BM one time for a sharpening. She is pretty beat up now, but as tight as the day I bought it.

Good luck.
