BM Delta Raider: Any good?

Absolutely, go get it right now

Its got a really sweet recurve blade and pretty good steel so it will serve as a good user if thats what you need. If you are looking for a collector's piece, in my opinion the Delta Raider is one of the finest examples of the "early" Benchmade days.

Certainly a good looking knife. I know it is only 420 steel - made in Taiwan I believe. Boker was offering a presentation grade version a short while back.

Great knife, snap it up while you can!

I really wish Benchmade would come out with an updated version of this knife- maybe in their M2 steel or another suitable tool steel and with g-10 grips? I think consumers are ready for a good recurve!

I agree, I like this design. Of course the new S&W HRT fixed blade is a similar design and I understand it is 440C.

Check out the blade markings as not all of the Raiders were made in Taiwan. Mine is made in USA.

Pete

Well it is about time you showed up in this thread Pete! Where have you been? I was unaware that any of the Benchmades where made in Tawain. What is the deal there? How many of Benchmade's products have been manufactured overseas Pete?

I believe the Delta Raider was made from 440C or AUS8, but I would buy the knife and stick it in your collection and NOT use it. Probably worth a lot more as a collectable. Gotta love those recurve blades though.

The BM Delta Raider has 420HC blade steel, which some might laugh at (myself included if it were a smaller blade), but it really does the job as an abbreviated bush and field knife. Easy resharpening too. If you're interested, email me and I'll email you back BM's catalog page from the early 90's with a full description.

Taiwan?! Negative on that. I don' t think Boker is involved in any current production of this superb piece.

The Delta Raider is a fighter no doubt. It moves quite well and is very quick in the hands. The amply textured hard rubber grips afford excellent retention without causing too much bite during extended drills. Grab it. You won' t be disappointed.

Nakano

Nakano, I said I believe it was made in Taiwan. Some Benchmade/Pacific Cutlery items were made in Taiwan. This piece may not have been. It is marked USA. It is 420 steel. I have provided a link to an original ad for the Benchmade as well as a picture of the Boker version. I don't know where the Boker is made but I doubt it is made in the USA. An excellent knife? Probably just fine but many forumites here (not necessarily myself) believe most if not all 420 knives are junk.

The S&W HRT is based on Darrel Ralph's fighter design.

Averageguy, where did you find that pic of the Boker "Magnum" recurve?

That picture is from an ebay auction a couple of months ago. It was being oferred for under $90.00. I was considering it because I do like the design of the Benchmade very much. But the choice of steel used by both makers kept me from buying. Don't get me wrong I have owned plenty of 420 knives and still do own a few. I have argued the merits of 420 on these forums before but to no avail. These forums have taught me not to like 420. So even if I like a knife, I wont buy 420.
