BM Fixed Presidio Question?

I like the BM Presidio and almost bought one about a year ago. It's a very heavy duty tactical blade with nice aluminum scales. 154CM steel about 3/16" thick....you gotta love that. Good heft to it and a great nylon sheath system. In fact, as ballistic nylon sheaths go, the BM155 sheath is probably the nicest I've seen.

Here's another link where the 155PE is a little cheaper:

Other similar blades (not all are equal to the Presidio....some closer than others) might be the BM HK Snody Tactical fixed blade (14150 I think), the Ontario RAT-5 or RAT-7, The Ranger RD series blades, and many others.

For other links try knifecenter, knivesplus, savsonswordsandknives, knifestuff, gpknives, etc. (all followed by .com)

I don't have one, although I like the idea of the serrations on the spine side. I do have a Benchmade CSK 156SBT. The blade is just over 6" in D2 & has their "BILT" system for the handle. Very nice knife. My only issue with the knife is that I don't care much for coated blades, but aside from that, it's a very good knife.

Thanks guys for your response! I am going to have to find one and have a go see.. Looks like a nice knife to me...

You asked for similar knives too. A couple of other knives you might look at before deciding are the BM145 Nimravus, the BM CSK that CLO1 mentioned, The Swamprat and Scrapyard knives, the Kabar Impact series knives, and the TOPS knives. All of them can be found through Google searches.

I've one. It's notable in its ergonomics, weight and size for outdoor use. The only thing I don't like about it is the all metal handle (not great IMHO for cold weather). Other than that, a great fixed blade. The only other similar one is the already mentioned Nimravus. Hope this helps.

Thanks StretchNM, there are so many knives in this category, it is totally overwhelming. I don't have a fixed blade yet, so I want to make sure my first one is good one.

Thanks Hateman for your response, I will look into the Nimravus as well. How does the metal handle grip? Does it get slippery at all if it gets somewhat wet?
That is the one thing that worries me, the fact that it gets cold doesn't bother me too much.

Thanks again.

Just checked out the BM Nimravus, looks great, love the G10 handle but the blade is too small of what I want... 6" is the minimum I want..
Need to keep looking.

CL01, is the BILT system some kind of rubber or plastic? Is the handle durable, looks like the ribs on the handle could wear off???

Thanks,

The handle works fine when wet. Again, IMHO, it works because of the ridged thumb ramp, the lowered point at the finger choil and the ridged handle. All of that gives me a nice grip for sweaty palms, etc. Still, if you work with oils or other sillpery stuff, I'd have the extra caution to be sure.

Thanks,

The BILT system is the way the tang is connected to the handle. Benchmade narrowed the tang, so that the handle is around it. Then they put a bolt into the bottom of it. The handle itself is some type of rubber (Or some type of substance that has "some" give in it). I think it'd work great in the wet. I do agree that one would use this knife with caution if used in other fluids (Oil, grease, gas, etc.).

Personally, I always liked the SOG Seal knife, but prefer the B/M 156. I like it because, while the blade is less than 1" shorter, it just feels better. I also like D2 better than AUS 6, although I admit AUS 6's stain resistance is MUCH better. I guess that's why they coat the blades, & you just have to be careful with the knfe (Clean it, oil it, etc.).

Thanks for your input guys! I will hopefully have my first fixed blade in the next couple of weeks, I will let you know which knife I finally choose.

I've had my eye on that Presidio for awhile. It's a beautiful knife, but a little too
'tactical' for my uses.

If the aluminum alloy handle is either too slippery or too cold, one could cut a section of bicycle inner tube and stretch it over the handle. I've done this with a couple of large bush knives with some great results!

Here's a Nimravus. If I had to do it all over again, I'd get a plain edge....but you can't get the tan G10 in PE.
