I would have to say, of all my folders, My benchmade grip is either #1 or #2. I would think with the axis lock, (strongest lock on the market Im told) the 154cm blade, and the ergonomic stylings of the knife, it would make a good bushcraft folder. What do you guys think? I plan to try and get out this weekend to test out my theory. My grip also sports a sandblasted blade finish and hand rubbed satin finished clip and hardware.

My mini-grip and my now modded-blade full sized grip are the only two folders that make it into the woods with me. I absolutely love them. I had Tom Krein mod the blade on my full sized grip down to a 3" sheepsfoot style blade.

These are great knives.

What makes it better than any other folder made by any other reputable company, or even Benchmade itself?

You like your Grip. Cool. I like it too. Please show why it's better than a Buck 110, a Cold Steel Voyager or a Spyderco Endura, or anyone of hundreds of wellmade folders.

Well I dont quite know how to explain it beyond what I said in my original post. It has a good blade shape, with a good amount of belly in case you want to skin something (I have skinned several deer with mine.) It also just feels "right" in my hand, like a a part of my hand. As far as the competors you posted, better steel and lock then a buck 110, better steel, better lock, better ergos then the voyager, and better blade shape and lock then the endura,(not enough belly for me).

I agree that the Grip is a great knife. I have a 550HG in my pack whenever I go out. Great ergos and a nice hand filling handle for what I consider a small knife. The Griptilian is a great backup to my 610 Rukus when in the woods.

I've used a 551 Grip and even the fixed blade 551 Grip as woods knives and they work extremely well. The only reason I don't carry one now is because I'm carrying the Mini-Ruckus instead which I like a bit better.

Don't underestimate this knife. I use it more, much more than I do my fixed blade.

I'm a big fan of BM's 154CM. It cuts stuff and junk

Found myself in a situation recently where I had no fixed blade knife on my person (abiding by my son's local Boyscout troop code for one of their campouts) and needed to baton some wood for kindling. None of the leaders brought an axe (axes are allowed) so I batoned with my mini griptilian and it came through with flying colors. Tough folder to live through that beating. Another scout tried to baton with their folder from Humvee and it broke into pieces. Wish I had the camera for that one.

Could you post a picture of the modded knife? sounds awesome

Grips are great knives and IMO are great for out doors as a back up. I use my 550HG when on the farm. Is a great knife, it saw some rest when I had my Large EXK in my pocket but since that was stolen the 550HG is back in my pocket. Here are some pics of the 550HG, LArge EXK and my small Seb. All great knives for back packing IMO.

I would take any of my folders into the woods without hesitation. I carry several grips, and several other manufacturers. Only ones I have found somewhat lacking were my waved delica and Endura until I worked on the edge a bit, could be thinner for woods tasks, but they work. I have never "Needed" more than a SAK for most things, you can make do.

I did some testing tonight on my grip. With kevlar gloves on, first I batoned crossways through a 2x4, then split it into kindling for my fire that night. Then split 2 more pieces, and the results: still shaving sharp, albeit a little looser on the pivot, but that is to be expected since I didnt have any loctite on the pivot, and it was a little loose already.
