Looking hard at this guy right now...

http://www.h-dknives.com/products/13100.aspx

It looks like a good hard use knife. No, the skulls aren't exciting me, but the knife looks very "tool-like" and industrial, and I like.:D

Anyone have one of these, or it's little brother the mini? What have your experiences been?

I have many BM's, so I am very familiar with the axis lock. I have a few with D2 blades, so no stranger there also.

I like the G10 insert in the scale, and from what I can see the fit and finish looks good. I am also right now into knives that I think would look better as they get used - and I think this qualifies.

They are still relatively new, so I'm not finding a lot of info.

No, I do not own a Harley -I'm Married with Children...

I've got the Harley, now I need the knife. :D Thanks for posting. If it's made by Benchmade and considering the materials of construction, I'd say it's a safe buy for a hard use knife.

I have the bike and my wife just bought me the mini Hardtail knife. Its basically a updated Buck 110. One of the smoothest Benchmades I own. Its been in my pocket for a week now and I have to say I really like it. Want to get the large one also but have to say the mini is a nice size. You can carry it in suit pants because it isnt to big and I think the large would only be good in jeans.

It is a good knife, definitely one of my favorites. It is like a buck 110 on steroids with an axis lock. I am planning on buffing the HD off of the blade and clip, and the G-10 inserts can be sanded down or textured. If I get a wild hair up my ass I might try to make some cocobolo inserts for it.

I am not into the H-D marketing stuff, but don't let that dissuade you, it is still an awesome knife. The only thing I would change about it would make it an automatic, and it looks like the liners are already cut for a safety like on the axis autos.

I have a 13100BK. It is a very good design IMO.

The knife may be a bit large for some people, but I like a hand filling handle and the handle "works" well in a variety of holds. The knife cuts well due to the high grind, too.

If I didn't like the 710 so well, the 13100 series could easily become my favorite EDC.

As to the various visual embellishments, I've never cared what markings are on my knives.

Wouldn't mind an M4 bladed version, though I wish BM would make their blades harder.

I had the mini hard tail for a couple of weeks and almost hated it. I love the look (other than the skulls), but didn't like the feel at all. It looks like a axis lock Buck 110, but didn't feel like one to me.

It was smooth and well built but it was also pretty much the most uncomfortable knife I've ever handled. The worst thing was that corner at the top of the butt, it was pretty sharp on the one I had and jabbed me in the hand every time I did just about anything with that knife. Even the pocket clip seemed to have sharper edges than any of the other 3 Benchmades I have.

I thought about grinding that corner off, but with the lanyard hole there wasn't that much that could be removed. So I sent it back so someone else could enjoy it (clearly some people really like it) and got a Benchmade 710 instead. I love that knife and have been carrying it ever since. That knife felt right and good from the first moment.

I heard they leak oil all over your pocket.

I ride Honda, just couldn't resist:D

I've handle the Hardtail and the Mini. I think they're my favorite BM design to date. The axis lock bar is more comfortable than the regular ones- for me at least. The Mini is perfect for EDC. The regular may be a little large for some. I think it's about the size of a large Rukus.

I almost bought one but am saving up for an Edgepro instead. I had asked around about these knives and everyone loves them, just not the price. FWIW knifeworks.com had sellout prices on them.

Just out of curiousity, did you handle the full size?

EDIT: Should of added that the full size, in my hands, moves the handle's rear corner out of my palm area when gripping the knife.

Nope, I haven't seen, other than photos, or touched the full size version. I certainly wouldn't turn down the opportunity if any shops around here carried them.

That would definitely make a big difference, at least in how it felt to me.

i think its a great looking knife, but im not into bikes, so probably wouldn't buy one.

but if it was gifted, id carry it.

They are among the best benchmades out there. I have handled both hardtails and I like the larger one better. The large one is in no way as big as a large Ruckus which I also love and have handled. The large one is about the same size of a buck 110 (which I have also handled) but not as thick in the handle area.

Fit and finish is excellent and the action is super smooth. I have also handled the BM Harley Davidson back road which I do not really like very much it is quality but unlike the hard tail it is not worth the asking price to me

Thanks all - from the posts, it looks like the full size is the one to have.

Thanks Haakon - I have very wide hands, and it apears from your post that the mini may have comfort issues due to shape.

Looks like I am off on another adventure...stay tuned.:D
