Ive had this knife for 1 week and the blade has chipped  . Ive tried sharpening it out but its way too bad for that. Does anyone have experience with BM knives doing this? Can I get them to replace the blade?

As long as the knife hasn't been visibly abused or modified, they should replace the blade under warranty. They are pretty good about answering the phone with a live person, so give them a call.

Do you have a picture? If not can you give a description of how big it is? Like an inch long and half an inch deep or a tenth of an inch long and 20 thousandths deep? What were you doing when the chip happened?

S30V can be a little 'chippy' when new and it's my guess that between the heat treat and grinding the blade, the edge can get too hot and become brittle. I have had S30V blades chip but once they are sharpened a few times and new metal exposed it never happens again. Of course this depends on how big the chip is but if you are doing it by hand any major reprofiling is going to take a long time with S30V unless you have some nice coarse diamond plates.

Benchmade will take care of you one way or another. If they can sharpen it up and get the chips out they will probably do that or if it is big and doesn't appear to be abused they will probably replace the blade. If not then a new blade is only $25. Speaking of which I need to give them a call about a couple things since they never responded to my email. Definitely give them a call if you want a quick answer.

If they don't warranty it you'll have to pay $25-$30 for a new blade. What were you doing that took a chunk out of the blade?

That sucks, hope everything works out.

I wouldn't think that drywall would chip the blade either but funnier things have happened. Definitely give Benchmade a call and see if they can fix you up.
