I am in the mood for a new knife and i am trying to decide between the benchmade Kulgera and the shoki. Both seem like excelent knives and i would like to buy both but i cant so i have to decide between the twon. So, if any of you own both or either one of these knives i would love to hear your opinions and/or preference. Thanks in Advance

Picked up a kulgera about a month ago. It was what I would expect for an upper end benchmade. Sharp out of the box. Great f&f. Nice ergonomics-it fits my hand very well. This is the first axis lock that I have owned-they really are as smooth as everyone says. It is not as big as I expected which is not a bad thing-it is more subdued than alot of my other edcs' (para, military, manix). I have not done alot of cutting with it and have not had to resharpen. That being said, I have a 690 in 154 that I carried for a number of years and always found that steel very easy to get back to a razor edge. I would say that this was a good/great purchase for me.

I got the 769th made Shoki and I love mine. Great knife, and my first Benchmade. Definitely will be buying more. I also had to decide between the Kulgera and the Shoki, and personally I just went with the Shoki. Both are great knives, it's all about what you're going to use it for, and which one you prefer the looks/specs of.

They are COMPLETELY different knives, the Shoki has no pocket clip and is a smaller "Gentleman's" knife, the Kulgera is the more standard Benchmade EDC knife. Both are GREAT knives. I don't carry my Kulgera very often, the axis lock studs feel.. well, they don't stick out very far and feel "slick", like your finger doesn't get a very good grab. Do what I did, get both.

yeah i know they are totally different. That does not matter to me seeing as i have another knife to fill the other niche. which one would you say does its specific job better?

I've held both and between the two perfer the 930 Kulgera. Being an Osborne fan it was a logical choice for me, even though I played with a 480 at my local dealer's shop and think it's a nice little gentleman's knife, just not my style.

A number of us on the BM forum did a 930 passaround, which is still ongoing, so I got to play with it for a week. On the pluses, I love the black and blue sculpted G-10 and nickel plated hardware. The thumbstuds, backspacers, and Axis studs all match each other nicely, and I had no problem opening and closing the knife. It flicks well and much like the 940 series, the blade is larger and longer then you'd think.

The only thing I really don't like on the 930 is how the plated liners extend out on the bottom of the knife, so when it's gripped tightly, the liners dig into the palm. It's not bad, but for me it's a negative, about the only one, too.

So, 930's my vote.

I like the 930 a lot (I don't own it, though). The name "Kulgera" has a nice ring to it :D

Although I'm considering the 960 instead. It seems to be the same design except less G10 in the handle (the 960 only has inserts), and the blade is of D2 instead of S30V.

They are fairly similar designs, but the blades are a half inch different.
