I have a Benchmade lum tanto first production. number is in the low 800/1000. it has a little wear on the clip. If i can get good money for it, ill upgrade to a gold membership and put it up for sale. So what is a fair price for it? I may have stumbled across a great deal on a springfield XD(M) .40s&w but i dont have any cash:mad:
ignore the 723, it was a bday present from my best friend. its the only good pic i have of the Lum.

Depends on what you consider "good money" as it does not seem to be bringing the collector's prices the Spyderco version of the Lum folding Tanto does. I've seen them going on eBay NIB for around $180-200, so I would not expect much more than that for one that has seen use, even gentle use.

Values are such an "iffy" thing. What would go for, say $200+ 1 yr ago, might not get $175 or so now.

That aside, a 1st production knife might be worth a little more, but honestly, it probably needs to be "mint". By mint, I use the term like it's used in coin/stamp collecting (New/unused) & usually for a discontinued model (Or a version that's not available right now). Otherwise NIB. It sounds like your BM has been used, even if very lightly & also, you didn't mention if you have the box & pouch.

If it's lightly used with box & pouch, I'd say $150-175, maybe, otherwise, under $150.

Hope that helps.

very few (if any) BM 1st production runs/pre-pro's/ even prototypes will bring a premium over a std one, and the few which would bring a premium will have to be in LNIB shape, though i have seen a couple of prototypes that differed a lot from the std production version bring a bit of a premium, say $50, maybe $100 tops, i cant recall a single pre-pro/1st prod run/etc bringing anything, in fact, some, like the pre-pro axis AFCK folks wanna offer less, the clip is only drilled for one mode of carry, tip up, while the std ones are IIRC RH-LH and tip up/tip down, i had one for sale and folks were offering LESS than the std one.

they dont bring a premium because BM makes too many of them, an example would be BM makes 400 or 500 prototypes while spyderco might make 4 or 5 and they rarely get out of the shop.

look at yours, they made 1000 of them, thats just not rare.

great knife though, i really like the new BM lum tanto, like the pics anyway i havent actually seen/handled one yet but i plan to asap.

i also liked and have had several of the spyderoc ti lum tantos and liked tham a lot too and wish i woulda kept at least one of the 3 or 4 i have had.

BM only makes up to 50 prototypes of any given model.
Other then that, +1 to the rest of the post :)

thats not correct, BM protoypes usually number at least 400 or 500, i have a 710 proto which is supposedly one of the less produced ones and i am positive BM made 450 of that one, thats what BM told me anyway, & the lady aslo implied that 450 was on the low side for proto's, as far as numbers go, i dont recall exact numbers but IIRC she implied 700 or 800 wasnt unusual, i also still have a tactical knives mag from IIRC '98 or so when the axius 1st came out on ther 710 and one of the writers mentions that the productions will have G10 and only the 1st 400 prototypes will have the alloy, so while there might be some question of 400 vs 450 they made a lot more than 50.

i used to collect BM prototypes and 1st pro-runs & pre pros, but mostly prototypes, thru the yrs i have had dozens of them, exactly 2 sold for anything over what a std production would, a 910 stryker (it was a CG vs V grind and had micarta or possibly CF handles, i got $150 for it) and a 710 (alloy vs G10 handles, and 4 or 5 other subtle differences, i have been offered $150 for it but still have the thing).

i remember the 1st one i got, i swapped a spyderco joht singh kalsa for it and thought i really had something, a 800 AFCK, i soon found out i woulda been better off keeping the kalsa lol, but i did go on and collect them for a few yrs i thought they were cool and kinda unusual, but swapped most off thru the yrs, really, other than the stryker and 710, they were all essentially the exact same as production (the ones i had, some others did differ i have heard) and worth about the exact same as production to boot.

To the original poster depending on how used your 760 is I would say in the ball park range of 150-175.00.. I have a 760 and they are truly great blades and IMO already becoming a benchmade classic... Anything now made with the LUM mark on it already becomes a classic...
