Hey all, new to Blade forums. Looking for a little advice. I live in the Carolinas with a bit of humidity but nothing too crazy. My PM2 in Maxamet hasn’t developed a patina yet because I’ve kept it coated in food grade mineral oil just for reference. I’m trying to decide between a Para 3 in s110v or a BM M4 Freek. I’m not too hard with my knives but I do use them. Sharpening isn’t an issue as I use a KME and hand sharpen. Any recommendations or someone who has them both? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I own the Super Freek and the S30V Para3. Of the two, I prefer the Freek, but I like bigger knives. I don't find S110V very appealing, but I have never owned a knife with it. All things equal, I like the characteristics of CPM-M4 better than S110V. I have spent a lot of time in GA and VA with CMP-M4 and didn't have any issues, so I think you will be ok in the Carolinas.

The Para 3 has more substantial liners and I think the compression lock is superior to the axis lock. The Freek is lighter, even though it is a bigger knife.

Either one will serve you well. I thought I would like the Para 3 because I love the PM2, but I like the PM2 way better.

If those are the 2 your set on i say get the one you like the size of best. I'll kinda double what MBG said, the para 2 has taken my pocket space for about 80% of the time the last 5 or 6 years id say and I picked up a couple para 3lw's when they came out...and even though I like them I don't love them and hardly carry them...maybe its the size. So if you really really like the size of your pm2 get the freek. Ill also toss a wild card out there. I just picked up a hogue Doug ritter RSK and I think it blows any benchmade under $200 out of the water. Amazing grip, deep carry clip, better springs on the lock and cpm-20cv. Cheaper than the m4 freek.. between it and and GM ace grand i just got also my pm2 has been kicked out finally. At least for this year.

At MBG, thanks for that advice. I like the properties of M4 too.

steelhead seeker - I like the RSK as well! I found out about the RSK after I had bought the BM griptilian in 20cv with grey g10. I’ll still probably add the RSK at some point.

sabre cat - I haven’t handled a para 3 yet but I would say the full size griptilian is about the shortest handle I would like without a choil.

I have an M4 Superfreek, the handle feels kinda plasticy (it is not plastic tho), but otherwise love the knife. Don't have the S110V Para 3 (are those the blurple?) but if it's a G10 handle the Para 3 will have the better handle. I do have a Maxamet PM2 that I love - that's my go to for daily stuff. Compression lock is amazing.

That said, if deciding between the two, I'd say buy the Freek just to try out another brand with a different blade shape / lock / etc. I've heard good things about the blurples, but personally doubt would be different enough to knock the Maxamet PM2 out of my hand. Have an S30V PM2 and Manix 2 that already caught shelf-time because of that Maxamet PM2.

I have all the knives mentioned in this thread by far except para 3, and my benchmade super freak is arguably the best among them. I have two full size Hogue Ritter, but to say they blow benchmade out of water is exaggerating. I do not see much difference between them and 20cv g10 BM grip and mini grip in terms of built quality. Price wise, Hogue Ritter is obviously better buys.

Super freek is vastly larger than para 3 in fact even larger than PM2. Doesn't make much sense to compare them.

Have you considered a Para 3 lightweight? The G10 P3 is basically a stumpy PM2, since you have one of those in a highly wear resistant HSS you could get a P3LW in Spy27 and have a new model in an exotic stainless.

I'd go Super Freek. I do love my spydercos, but the Super Freek is probably one of the best knives on the market right now. It's always a toss up if I'm going to carry my Freek, Shaman, or Ritter. Love them all.
