I have the full size Ambush, and it has the same locking system. It's not even close to the smoothness of the axis-lock system, and it takes alot more force to open onehanded and there is a a noticable area of heavy resistance when the blade is about half-way open where you have to overpower the springs to get the blade to go on and open all the way.

I had problems opening this knife to the point that I returned it to the store. The initial resistance immediately disappears causing my thumb to "jump" off the stud right into the blade edge. I just could worked around it.
I did love the feel of the handle and the low mount clip though.
Edited to add: Sorry, you asked for a comparison. I would say that in addition to being more difficult to open, the lock wasn't as smooth as that on my Griptilian.

i bought a mini ambush and had to take it back. it lost the "in-draft" pull on the blade and was VERY loose when closed. also the scales had (what seemed to me) very rough corners. now i have a mini-grip with axis and it's so much better. the two locks are not even close.
