BM Mini-Barrage Problems

I recently got a BM Mini-Barrage and absolutely love it. The sheer sound of when the blade flicks out is the surest, sweetest I've ever heard. And from the box, it's the sharpest knife I've ever had. I plan on making it my edc.

So what"s the problem? After about a week of use, I felt the clip was a little too tight. But in bending it back, the entire handle split at the clip line, with the clip and the top part of the handle in my hand. It's at Benchmade for repairs, and there's no doubt in my mind they'll make good, but I was just wondering: is this unusual or a common flaw for this line? Any chance of a model with G10 handles?

My thanks.

You bent it while it was attached to the handle? I'd say that was negligence on your part.

Yeah I find it best to take the clip off if you think it is a little tight or just wear it a lot and get the clip broken in.

no way... the clip could have snaged on something and caused this... BM should fix for free... I'm sure they will, but just sayin'... no negligence here.. just a broke knife. There is no way that bending a clip out to loosen it is abuse. I wonder if the Barrage's clip screws are inserted into the little brass nuts molded into the handle like the FS Grips... never did think that was a good idea...

You can see the brass inserts in this thread.

FWIW, I caught my mini grip clip on a guy wire, yanked it straight up. The knife was fine but had to replace the screws and clip. I can't imagine that any knife company would consider that negligence. Benchmade will treat you right.

mike.

Funny...I don't remember the ones at the shop where I work having brass inserts...I seem to remember it threading into the liner. I'll check and get back to you guys. Either way, no that's not normal. But at the same time, always remove the clip before attempting to bend it. Benchmade clips are REALLY tough. I can't bend one without pliers.

That sucks...I understand the screws for the clip don't go into the liners. Instead they're tapped into the Valox handle scales into brass inserts. I see the problem would be what happened to your knife, the handle material's brittle...so tweaking the thing could've caused the break. Benchmade will fix it under warranty though, so next round I'd be careful.

I have #6/1000 and it has brass inserts.
