I just picked up a BM Mini-Barrage this evening from Grabnd Prairie. I haven't used it yet, but the thing is very impressive. It has a deep hollow grind, 154CM blade that is 2.91" long and the overall is under 7". It is the first assisted open Axis Lock, and it totally rocks! Unlike some earlier BM assisted openers, it does not have that really switchblade looking leaf spring. My guess it has a version of the coiled spring that BM users in their autos. The bottom line is that the blade flies out of the handle more impressively than any assisted opener I have ever seen. This truly makes an auto redundant, IMO.

Nice to hear its a great knife...
Post some pics if you get a chance.. I am interested in the larger model.. But pics would be nice anyway.. Perhaps an edge shot to show the grind?
Thanks
Matt

So what happens when you try to open it by pulling the axis bar back like on regular axis locks?

Im wondering the same thing.. Does it just open like an auto.. If so.. Then there is no need for an auto axis.. correct?

If you just pull back the Axis lock nothing happens. If you pull it back and flick it hard, it will open super fast because the assist will kick in about 70% open.

I'd like to know too. I've searched the BM site without finding the answer.

I assume that the assist spring must hold the closed blade in place when the axis bar is pulled back or it would be an auto by definition.

The way they explained it to me at SHOT was that it's a dual coil spring with a cam mechanism that engages to retain the blade in the shut position. Sort of like the Buck Rush and Sirus series but without the flipper. :)

Someone wanted pics?

Isn't that just a bee-yoo-teeful little knife? Osbourne nailed it again! :D

The action is pretty fast. I played with one at my local toy store, it was a bit small for me, but the action was fast, and it appeared to have the normal benchmade quality.

I've been playing with this for a few days at the local knife store I work it, and I love how fast it is! Another thing that got me was how the spring keeps pushing the blade out, even towards locking. A lot of AO's don't push more than past half open or so, and this one goes all the way. It really feels good in hand and my guess is it would last quite awhile.
