BM Mini Grip rust resistance?

I was curious about how the Mini Grips with 154cm steel hold up in salt water? For instance, in pocket swimming at the beach with the salt water and sand. I was concerned with the Axis-lock itself because of the small metal spring in it, as well as the liners, etc. Would a fresh water rinse and some Tuf Glide/Tuf cloth applications before and/or after be sufficient to keep out the rust?
I'm planning a trip to Florida in June and would prefer to take it over my Spyderco H1 Salt because it's more sheeple friendly. I don't want to be walking with three of four blades on this trip so I'm looking to keep it down to my Spyderco Ladybug and either the Salt or Mini Grip.

I'd be packing the Salt for that kind of trip. I don't see the difference between the Salt 1 and the BM Mini Grip as far as the sheeple factor is concerned. They both look like cute little knives to me. If you take the Mini, fresh water rinse for sure, and dry it completely. Use the hotel hair dryer if you have to.

I agree. I don't think my yellow Salt 1 is very intimidating at all, at least no more than my Mini Griptilian. Personally, I'd bring along the Salt and have the peace of mind of knowing it won't rust no matter what you do with it.

I would get a David Boye Cobalt. GREAT CUTTER and completely rust proof! Kevin:)

What's the point of having the "Salt," and leaving it at home, when your knowingly going into a high rust environment? If you're concerned about sheeple reaction, exercise discretion. I would guess that people living in Florida are more familiar with the Salt than a vacationing Canadian may suspect. FWIW, I would never intentionally expose my Mini-grip to salt water.

The funny thing is, that after reading this thread I had to buy a knife from spydercos salt series. Especially because I live in Florida and I am around salt water often. I couldnt believe I hadnt purchased one yet, so I ordered a Pacific salt, PE with black handles. It should be here by the end of this week.

I just spent a week in Cabo San Lucas back in December doing a lot of snorkeling, jet ski, fishing, etc. I had my full size grip IWB on swimsuit for all of this. The only rust I got on it was in one side of the Axis spring. It tried to get rust on one spot on the blade, but I'd just rub it off when rinsing it off at nite in the hotel.

When I got home, I flooded it with WD40 and cleaned it out as best as I could. It's still going good and the rust hasn't returned. So I guess you could do your best to maintain it on a nightly basis.

But I agree with all the others. A salt or something created for salt water environment would be better.

Take the Salt. When you go into Florida overland, you'll see a big billboard that cautions visitors that "Florida residents are permitted to use deadly force", or some such wording. Most Floridians are not likely to go faint over a Spyderco Salt.

OTOH, I took my mini-Grip (440C) and my Delica 3 on a week-long trip to the ocean to see how they would hold up. Both of them were treated with Militec before I left. Once there, they waded in the water daily and got used for some cutting chores. At night they were rinsed in fresh water and dried. Upon returning home, they were rinsed and recoated with Militec. Neither of them ever showed the slightest inclination to rust; not the springs, liners, or the blades.
