How do the Benchmade Mini-Presidio and the HK 14210 compare? I know what the specs are from the BM website, but more specifically in regards to ergonomics, build quality, slicing ability, etc. I am considering one of these as a new daily use knife for general utility. I have a 943, which I am quite happy with, but would like something with a shorter blade. I recently purchased a 635 Skirmish, but find that I like the axis lock much better than a frame lock. The other item that is important to me is pocket-ability, meaning is it comfortable after carrying it all day. I find some knives to thick and noticeable after being clipped to your back pocket all day long. Any thoughts or suggestions would be most welcome. I have done a search, but I haven’t found any threads comparing these two models directly. Thanks.

They are both very similar in all the categories that you listed except for pocket-ability. On that category alone I would say go for the 14210. The 525 has a pretty rough handle that is fairly bulky. On the bright side, it will never slip out of your hands or pocket.

I agree with HKBM.

For use as a daily EDC the 14210 would be more comfortable.
The 525 would be better for heavier use, a better ridged grip.

Both great smaller knives.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the advise. Pocket-ability is one of those areas of constant compromise. I prefer a full size handle when using a knife, but I sure don't like to carry one in dress slacks or dockers all day!

I'm gonna follow the crowd here. I have both and the H&K definitely carries better in my pocket. It's also a strong, well-built knife. The 525 handle will probably be a bit more comfortable for heavy or extended use, but the blade length and capabilities should be pretty close. For me, the 525 is easier to sharpen since it's not a recurve, but my Sharpmaker rods do a fine job on the H&K.

I have read posts here that said the Axis Lock on the Presidio models would not hold as well as the other Axis Lock models. Something to do with the angle of cut for that particular knife. Also remember reading that this was a problem that BM was working on rectifying. For this reason alone I would go with the H&K.

I think I recall what you are referring to but it was the 520 that was having issues. My 525 has very positive lock-up and I've yet to experience any problems with it, other than premature pocket ware.

I would say go with the HK. It's just as capable as the 525 but a little more refined as well.
