BM Nimravus Cub vs MOD Razorback

Hey guys,
Got a dilemma here.
I've got a UDT up for trade and two guys offered me trades at the same time.
One is for a Benchmade Nim Cub + a Normark sheath.
The other a Masters of Defense Razorback, the knife i originally was interested in.

Now, the knife would be carried as a self defense tool (I'm aware of my state's knife carry laws) and also an outdoor's knife for hiking and some biking.

What I want is your input on how well both would work as a self defense tool, how both would work as a hard use utility knife, How easily it can be carried (the BM has the Normark sheath, so i suspect it's a better carry system), and the how the knives are overall.

Does anyone own both and can make a direct comparison?

I do know there's a size difference, the Razorback is 9 inches long and the BM just under 8.
Let me know what you guys think.

Hello!

I had one of the MOD knives, for defense i'd say that it'd work great, but as a utility piece i'd say NO! too fat blade.
I own a large Nimravus, great user and defensive piece!!

I'd go for the Nimravus, if it'd be used for both defense and utility.
I bet the Normark sheath will be great!!

Get the Nimravus Cub with Normark Sheath. I have that exact same combination and it is great. The Cub is a fine knife, and can, where I live, be carried legally (I live in MA and the blade is 4" or less). Eric made the sheath and it is perfect.

I don't own a Razorback, but I understand that it is purely for self defense. It is not full tang, and therefore is not for any "general or all around" purpose. Strictly self defense.

If you want to kill someone, quickly and efficiently, take the MOD.
Otherwise take the Nimravus, that's a good knife.
Happy sharpening

JayHarley,
(sorry about off-topic, but jay doesn't have e-mail listed)

I also live in MA, own a NimCub ... looking to get a Normark sheath soon, I hope. Would like to discuss this knife/sheath combo, as well as MA knife laws ... drop me a line at jbos6@hotmail.com or jbush@turnerstreet.com ...

I've had both knives pass through my hands and agree with everyone else here to go for the Nim Cub with the Normark Sheath. It is vastly more versatile for your indicated uses.

The MOD is a good defensive knife but really small IMHO. It has a triple blood groove and a good tip for penetration but otherwise is lacking for utility purposes. The handle is set up nice if it fits but otherwise makes a VERY uncomfortable fit for larger hands.

The Nim Cub is just the opposite in that it would serve well in many applications and tough enough to camp with and knock around. All around great knife and larger than you'd expect as well.

Best of luck,
Shawn
