I have been looking at both of these knives and I am liking the Osborne more on looks and such. But maybe it's being a guy and needing bigger better that is making me not able to choose, since the onslaught is pretty beefy. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

If you are looking to edc one of them, I'd go with the 940. The Onslaught is a rather large blade to carry in a pocket. The 940 is an excellent edc option.

If it were me, i'd go with the 940. I like S30V over 154CM. Also, the 940 is a bit smaller which would make it a better option for pocket carry.

Don't get me wrong, both knives are great and you will be happy with either.

The 940 you forget it's in your pocket. The Onslaught you can't forget it's in your pocket.

2 extremely different knives. Why are you looking at these knives? Just to have one? EDC? food prep? Skinning knife? I imagine your just looking at them because you like both of them and dont have a role in mind. In that case I cant really tell you what to get. 940 will be quicker, smoother, go with you more places, less scary, easy one hand operation, something you will want to use in many roles. The onslaught while only having a half inch bigger blade is much more cumbersome. Its not bad or sloppy in any way, just larger and will probably be used less in every day roles. Can operate one hand but not as quickly as the 940. Just a beefier, scarier knife, although I think blade thickness is similar.

Since I live in Jersey and still in college I would go with a 940 (which I actually almost just bough, went with Alias instead). The Onslaught is a much bigger package for only a half inch extra reach.

I prefer the 943's blade shape. :) 940/943 is a better EDC in my opinion.

The Onslaught while a huge folder with a nice large blade is a little too thin for my liking. I owned for about 6 hours and promptly sold it. I'd rather have something that is more compact and sturdy.

Well I am carrying it for EDC/Tactical which I assume the reverse tanto on the 940 could provide. Nutnfancy described it as an excellent EDC/Tactical I also just like the overall look of the 940 over the Onslaught so I think thats what I will go with.

Here's my take so feel free to ignore what I'm about to say.

I've seen that video and I take most of that stuff with a grain of salt. If you're really serious about personal protection with a knife, I suggest you seek advice from those in the blade martial arts community.

Personally, I have never taken "tactical" into account when it comes to EDC knife choice. It is a tool and will, God willing, always be used as a tool. My preference for the 943 over 940 is based on aesthetics since I really like the sleek look, it's as simple as that.

In the end, get what makes you happy.

Sure. I understand. I hope to never have to use a knife for self defense purposes either. For myself I like the stepped cuts and the reverse tanto edge personally. As most have said anyway any knife can be used for self defense.

Been carrying a BM 940 for 10 years as part of the rotation. Never had any problems with mine.

I agree. The Onslaught looks nice, and I love the Spydie hole with the Axis lock, but that blade is thin. While cutting heavy material, you can definitely feel that blade flex under even the slightest lateral stress.

Have you considered the Lum Dejavoo? All the smoothness/looks of a Lum, but nicer steel and more compact.

While you are at it, you might want to give a hard look at a 710, which seems like a nice compromise.

I don't have an Onslaught. I've had a 940 since just after they were released. I sometimes get bored with it just because I've had it so long, and begin searching for something new and exciting. So I look and handle and look some more. After ten years or so of this, I haven't found anything I like more than my old beat up 940.

Do I know you? ;) My primary EDC is a BM 940 in 154CM, my first 940. I have other knives (BM 710, RSK Mk 1, Sebenza) on the shelf that might be carried depending, but the EDC knife that is clipped in my pocket most of the time is the 940.

I really want to put a BM 805 TSEK on that shelf too . . .

I just bought a 940 in D2 (ltd ed). They are fine knives, and can be picked up at a price that is more than fair.

Ok after reading some on s30v steel it seems as though some like it and some do not. So do you guys like the s30v on the Osborne?

Always been fine on mine. I really like the 940 design, and carried the S30V 940-Ti for about six years after it came out as a limited edition in 2003 or late 2002, whichever it was. Never treated this one rough, like I did many other S30V blades, and it only needed occasional touchups to maintain a good edge.

I have a 940 and it is a great knife. It reminds me a lot of a steak knife or 4" kitchen blade except heavier duty. Very useful blade. The only thing I don't like about it is that the green aluminum scales seem to scratch and mark up rather easily.
