i just got my NEW BM Ascent II with the black pocket clip and it already has marks and scuffs on it ? why can't they finish the clip with something more wear resistant, otherwise one great knife.

I also have this issue with BM. Some guys on the forum offered a solution that might make for a better clip finish - try some type of bake on enamel paint.

I never did this because I can live with the scuffs, however I might in the future. Clips that are as nice as the Sypderco ones would be nice.

Not trying to be a smartass, but wouldnt a permanent black magic marker fix this?

i tried a marker but it wore also, i guess you could spray it with a flat black paint and then overcoat with a poly sealer, easy job with a spraycan, you would think they could apply a wear resistant finish,
it's probably not cost effective to treat them with the same blade
application like BT2. not a big deal but the knives are so nice looking its seems unfortunate to have a heavily worn clip.

good feedback.

Yeah, I hate the black BM pocketclips too. I was looking at the Emerson site and they sell aftermarket clips that seem to fit most benchmades. Does anyone have any experience with those clips ?? I wonder if the coating on those is any better.

What about 690 next? ;)

No need to worry about clip finish.

Also as shiny as many of Spyderco ones...

There was a thread about clip probs a while back. I think the cure for this problem was Brownell's, a do-it-yourself easy refinishing project where you strip off all the finish, coat the clip and bake on the finish in a toaster oven. You might want to try a search.

I agree that recent BM clips seem to have some cosmetic problems, but since my BMs are all users, it really doesn't bother me.

I've owned several Emersons and the clips never showed much wear at all. They appear to have a gun-blued finish, not a painted on finish. (As for the screws and the BT finish on the blades of said Emersons, that is another wave on another ocean, if ya get my drift;) ) You could also just satin finish the clip with 600 grit sandpaper if you don't mind the stainless finish.

You can order pocket clips direct from Emerson knives which will fit most Benchmades and the finish is fairly durable. All clips will eventually show wear especially if you bump into things, but Emerson's finish really lasts. I only wish they'd use the same finish on the screws and handle bolts for a lasting subdued look ;)

You could polish the finish off of the handle screws an clip to give it a nice satin finish. I've done it on 2 of my hard chrome finished Emersons and they look great.
