Hello to you all ! I am thinking to purchase a BM Presidio 520. I just love the design. Though i have doubts about the aluminum handles. Many owners say that after external use the coating rips off the handles and the aluminum is exposed. That's not my main worry. I am just wondering if the uncoated aluminum will rust or end up in corrosion  ??? Does anynone of you owned the Presidio 520 for a long time and has the experience of that issue so he can help me through this?

Best regards,

Alex

Aluminium is awesome stuff. It doesn't rust, pit, or degrade whatsoever, plus it can take one hell of a beating and keep going.

Plus, the Presidio has (to me) the most comfortable handles I've ever felt on any knife, bar none.

There is no doubt anodized Aluminum does get scratched.
It won't rust though.
Scratches or pocket wear will just give the knife more character.
But, if the scratches get to be to much to bear.
You could have them re-anodized and start all over again.
Or, you could always get some replacement scales for it.

Check out the full size Benchmade Leopard in this photo (4th from the left). It has been carried a lot and there is some wear to the black coating on its aluminum scales but not a whole lot.

I would like to have a 520 myself.

In order to avoid the issues may occur from the aluminum handles some people suggested of choosing the BM Bone Collector which has similar design on handles but G10, also a heavy duty knife. But i reject that because i dont want to sacrifice the 154CM blade with a D2 one....

Rust refers to oxidation. Aluminium will infact oxidize, but it forms a protective barrier of very hard, very tough aluminum oxide.

That means i will still have to protect the aluminum from huminity and keep it dry after washing it or contacting with water ?

nope. keep it dry to protect the steel, but that aluminium is impervious to red rust...which is Iron (II) oxide. You don't have to worry about the aluminium at all.
